Tim Wise is right..Obama like many of us blacks know/tamed not to go too far with addressing the uncomfortable issues. This is a plain indication that racism exist and strongly. Obama has show courage and strength, during this time..so give credit where credit is due.

Vancefort,

Obama is a man, a mere mortal, who is subject to the same forces we all confront. What makes him different? To use the perfect storm metaphor, there was a convergence of multiple factors that made Barack Obama the "One". Perhaps too many factors to numerate but here are a few;

1) The phase in America's evolution - if he had emerged 50 years ago he wouldn't have had a chance. Heck, he could have been lynched.

2) His oratory skills and natural charisma

3) The backlash caused by the failed policies of the Bush administration

4) Michelle Obama - during the early days of the primary, it was Michelle Obama not Barack Obama who was able to connect with significant portions of the African-American demographic

5) Bill Clinton - he made Hillary's battle impossible to win thereby reducing Obama's competition

6) His whole package - he's smart, he's got the right credentials , and he is aligning himself with the right people.

These factors are working for him as a candidate. They will not necessarily be all that he needs to lead.

We'll see but regardless, he's better than the alternative.

Powerful arguments, well made.

Query: Once in the White House, do you think Barack will be able to transcend his transcending?

Thanks, Tim. You really know how to ruin a black man's Monday, don'tcha? LOL.

Great views. Very interesting.

To be honest, I've never looked at my blackness as a "negative," and unless you want to live life depressed, as a black person, you can't look at your skin color/culture/background, etc. as a negative.

Politics is a different story, of course. Hats off to Barack Obama, though. He's got more courage than most people will ever give him credit for.
