2010 Resolutions

In our LA Progressive survey that ran from 30 December 2009 to 2 January 2010, we asked our readers to name a political leader they admire and write a 2010 resolution for that person. Here are the results from that survey. Below is the full list of responses:

  • Dear Tim Kane: please snap our Progressive Base out of their shortsighted disappointment funk, and instead ignite us all to bring big Dem Senate wins in 2010 so that Obama can pass more-progressive legislation. Right now Ocala’s been dropped like a hot potato and the right-wing propaganda machine is chewing him up. All while our disappointed ranks have deserted him because he can’t magically snap his fingers and make a GOP-heavy Senate enact the Progressives wish list. Please shake people awake and show them how more Senate Dems will give Obama the votes to pass legislation more to our liking.
  • Resolve, to end the war in Afghanistan. Use covert forces to stop Al Qeada; stop paying outrageous money to civilian contractors to rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan.
  • We must resolve to be our best, set an example.
  • Make it key to ramp DOWN the Afghan/Iraq struggles. We will never defeat them over there. We must help our allies in region and work to bring US back in strong economic condition. Bring our troops and civilian National Guard back where they do our country the best good from within
  • Obama: Put the best interests of people, not corporations first.
  • Continue to work through and push through your agenda President Obama. You will be successful. You have to ignore the critics.
  • Take up the opposition on their filibuster threat and pass a public option with 51 senate votes.
  • Dennis, Get behind legislation to protect the privacy of high school students who take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, ASVAB.
  • Resolve to represent the American people–75% of whom EARN LESS THAN $50,000 annually–NOT CORPORATE ELITES; END the meaningless wars and invest in a Green Economy and rebuilding our country.
  • I don’t support many. I just heard Robert Reich on KPCC who said the bankers made out like gangbusters. I would like to appoint him to a public office position again.
  • Obama Stop trying to be a nice guy. Republicans are not for you NEVER will be and they are doing a good job of making you look “terrible”. Obama has to be more vocal and stronger. GET MAD Stop playing their dam game.
  • Republicans and corporations don’t give a DAM about America !
  • Obama: break free of the influence of the Goldman Sachs crowd.
  • Immigration reform that does not reward those who have broken the laws of the land and whose presence has deflated working wages and added to California’s social and financial costs.
  • Five priorities (all top priorities): 1. Even Tom Friedman says we need an energy tax hike (not the Wall St. giveaway of cap’n’trade). Make this revenue neutral (cut FICA) 2. Tax the oligarchs by repealing the Reagan tax “cuts” to progressive taxation. Otherwise, we’re endorsing $4,000 shower curtains as the best use of our wealth. 3. Repeal corporate personhood. 4. Mandate smart growth as the price local governments have to pay to receive federal transportation funds. Otherwise we’re going to continue to build sprawl — and set our dependence on imported oil in concrete. Literally. 5. Public funding for campaigns.
  • Senator Feinstein. If you continue to oppose organized labor and the Employee Free Choice Act, there are many working class voters in California who will not soon forget.
  • To Obama, Reid, Pelosi: TAKE NO PRISONERS!!! USE the power we fought like desperate dogs all through 2008 to win for you! USE it or LOSE it!!!! And take a page (or a hundred and 25-thousand pages) from Florida Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson. Hit back, and hit back HARD!!!!!! Please realize the opposition is lying, cheating, and scheming only for the destruction and defeat of you and our Democratic agenda! WHY are you even TRYING to do business with them? In fact, Alan Grayson might be a much better Dem leader or even House Speaker than Pelosi.
  • My main directive would be – LISTEN TO YOUR BASE!!!!!! YOUR BASE IS PROGRESSIVE!!!!! DO NOT TURN YOUR NOSES UP AT US!!!! WE are the ones who brought you to the dance, and WE are the ones who work and donate and make the phone calls and knock on the doors and send the emails and turn out at events and put up the flyers and posters and walk the precincts and go the meetings. You dismiss us at your peril. What if we don’t show up next time?
  • Assemblymember John Perez: let’s get enough more Dems elected to pass a budget and other vital stuff before California implodes.
  • To Barrack Obama: Stand firm for healthcare, education, and energy conversion, NOT warfare!
  • Push to get rid of Rahm Emmanuel- bad for the nation, bad for the Democratic Party, bad for the majority of Jews in this country.
  • Resolved, that the United States of America will do more to build the economy based upon renewable energy sources, to train more people in these fields and make a concerted effort to review, rephrase and regenerate a health care bill that insures that all American’s will have the coverage they need at a price they can afford.
  • To Senator Bernie Sanders: Sir, please stay the course. You are a beacon to those of us who do not think Socialism is a bad word. Keep up the good fight!
  • Go forth and cause the electorate to renew their faith in popular government, renew their belief in collective action centered on common cause, be forgiving of human frailty that is not borne of bad intent, create living conditions which foster maximum human health as a matter of public policy and gainful employment thereafter. Enlist and mandate that all organized religions manage and execute the task of producing a quantifiable improvement in the level of interpersonal relations by and between world peoples. Failure to achieve this behavioral milieu would result in loss of status and participation in political life. All political advocacy shall be conducted in public media during reasonable hours and each advocate shall have a qualified adversary with equal opportunity. Render it a Capital crime for an elected official to accept any moneys other than his/her statutory compensation, for any reason not specifically permitted by applicable law.
  • President Obama: Fire Summers & Geithner. Impose confiscatory taxes on big bank/financial company profits & executive/manager bonuses. Use the money to pay for FEDERAL jobs programs to employ people who have been ought of work more than 26 weeks. Pay those folks to help construct & install solar panels to be on public buildings and to rebuild in an environmentally sound way crumbling public school buildings. Break up the too big to fail banks. Write and sign and global climate change treaty that will stop global warming to 2 degrees by 2025. Mobilize the nation behind a global warming/energy bill that will cut energy use and global greenhouse gas emissions, save Americans on their energy bills and cut American dependence on foreign sources of energy of all types–Chinese solar cells and Middle Eastern oil. Develop a fairer tax policy that raises more income from corporations and that top 5% income earners. Develop a fair trade policy that protects workers & jobs.
  • TO: Congressman Kucinich. I will continue my fight against the special interests that are corrupting our government.
  • Resolve to stand for what you believe, stay calm, make your case, don’t let the news media get away with saying things that are not true. Oh wait a minute you already did that – Never Mind (snark).
  • I am a retired 86-year-old physician, a life long progressive, who had the opportunity to meet Norman Thomas as a child, when my father ran for congress as a socialist. I was a great admirer of I.F.Stone and George Seldes. I write a health care column for The Rag Blog. I would support a political leader who was truly independent of the vested interests, who sincerely supported single payer/universal health care (per PNHP), had the common sense to know that foreign adventurism leads to “terrorist” retaliation against the United States, believed in strict government control of our financial institutions, and showed unequivocal belief on the American version of liberty, equality, and fraternity. He must decry American imperialism and truly work in concert with the international community.
  • I would like to see Bernie Sanders refuse to support the reconciled health care bill unless it has the public option.
  • To all senators: I promise to actively pursue policies that benefit all citizens.
  • Barbara Boxer: Hang in there!
  • Barbara Lee: I will press ahead to be a California senator or its governor within six years.
  • Congressmen Brown and infect to all Democrats. Give us a good healthcare reform bill in reconciliation.(Single payer.) A real energy bill and global warming bill. Stop the war in Afghanistan and take the troops out of Iraq. Regulate the banks and insurance companies and give us employees free choice act. Create a jobs bill that will help the unemployed. Be real democrats.
  • To President Obama: Study FDR and put the New Deal back the way it was before the great dismantling.
  • I support Dennis Kucinich. He just needs to keep on keeping on and be the leader we all need now.
  • Socialize all medical care; socialize all education; expand green investments; establish a 2010 New Deal.
  • Keep up the good work.
  • President Obama: Continue to keep your eye on the ball. Do not be swayed by all the B….S…. coming from the Right.
  • President Obama get us out of Afghanistan and Iraq stop spending billions that we need in this country push measures get people back to work and push for Healthcare for everyone not some watered-down version, protect Social Security. Make this a HAPPY NEW YEAR.
  • I want all ALL politicians to work towards obtaining: 1. Retain JOBS, JOBS, JOBS for the US population. 2. Healthcare for ALL 3. Security of this country 4. Eliminate funding of elections by special interest groups 5. Refrain from bailing out big banks and corporations 6. Control illegal immigration 7. Children born of illegal immigrants should NOT automatically become US citizens. When they reach the age of 18 they may be allowed to apply for citizenship. 8. Show no partiality in the Israeli-Palistinian problem
  • I like Bernie Sanders and the NY Congressman for their efforts on the Public Option. I would continue efforts on this amendment. Insurance affects all, employed, unemployed, young and old. We cannot have monopolies on Insurance, Hospitals, Prescriptions Drugs, outrageous fees on Credit Cards, etc. Push the Public Option and opt out-in choice of companies and a variety of choices without restrictions.
  • To ALL elected officials: PLEASE resolve to do that job you were elected to do. Don’t assume your constituents agree with your choices – ASK. If you were elected by a majority, you have the responsibility to follow what that majority of your constituents believe you should do. You do NOT have the right to think you know what is best. Don’t let the office go to your head. There will be more elections. Stop going along with your party’s demands and stand up for what is right for our country.
  • Pass healthcare reform that includes a public option, then bring our men and women home from Iraq and Afghanistan as soon as possible.
  • Pres. Obama, please resolve to recognize that the GOP has no interest in anything other than trying to block you, and act accordingly.
  • Try to do the best you can for our children and children’s children. We desperately need to upgrade America’s infrastructure and we need to do it fast. We need massive investment in alternative energy to fix global warming and to get off the oil diet. We need to fix health care at all levels and to change our approach and the way we think about wellness. If America’s people can be healthy, we can do anything!
  • Bill White – run Rick Perry out of office in 2010.
  • I cannot tell a politician what to do in 2010. The people I support are progressive, intelligent, yet PRAGMATIC – which, unfortunately is something that my fellow progressives have left at the door, just like their conservative counterparts. Obama, Wyden, are progressive and pragmatic and are willing to not throw the baby out with the bath water. This is a good thing. It’s NOT a smarmy political thing. I believe in democracy and I believe in conflict resolution. Obama cannot wave a magic wand, much as progressives would like him to. Please, lay off the self-righteous ideological diatribes. I’m a staunch progressive, and I am getting VERY TIRED of it. Too many progressives cannot see how similar they are to tea baggers with the self righteous, end of the world, “pure party” BS. So, I guess I’d rather say something to fellow progressives instead of to my reps. Being from Portland, OR, my reps are pretty great.
  • Obama should not give up or listen to the whining, nagging voices.
  • Stand up for the people of this nation and our constitution. Continue to understand that principles are worth fighting for even if you loose your job. Strip Joe Lieberman of his chairmanship.
  • Reinstate Glass-Steagall and ban derivatives.
  • Work for and elect Progressives.
  • Listen. Think. Have courage. Meditate. See God in everyone. Act decisively on your conscience and with the national and worldwide good as the bottom line.
  • Mr. President, do what you heart tells you. You have the intellect and the values that this country needs. Don’t let the fools who heckle from the sidelines distract you. For every teabagger/birther there are 10 of us who support you.
  • Dear Mr. Obama, 1. Try and do what you promised. Stop trying to please everyone because you cannot. This is a tough job. 2. You have done enough TV time. 3. Look at your staff again and see if you have made the right choices and if not do something about it.
  • For Obama. Don’t react to the right. Follow your own wise judgment.
  • To Dennis Kucinich: keep doing what you’re doing, as loudly as you can. And thanks.
  • To President Obama: Good job so far…focus on job creation/retention…get the CIA/FBI/TSA/HS together to turn away the people who wish to hurt us…Best wishes for 2010…
  • As President, I resolve to end the war in Afghanistan and bring all troops home from both Afghanistan and Iraq by December 31, 2010.
  • Pray over everything you do prior to doing it, and watch God work it out. This statement is meant for every man and woman on the face of this earth.
  • Revamp the health care bill undo this pastiche of special interests.
  • We have learned how to control costs (e.g Mayo, Hopkins, Hospital in Danvillle Pa) Make that a major part of the bill. Go towards a French style single payer system. It works.
  • I am so worried that this mess of a bill is going to fail and hurt any possibility of future changes or worse, to allow the republicans to override it.
  • Someone has to lead and remind Americans of our moral commitment to help our fellow man.
  • GO FOR JOB GROWTH IN AMERICA TO CHARLES SCHUMMER
  • President Obama: PLEASE remember your original promise for change and stop pandering to the elite. Those of us who supported you are still here and want only your success.
  • To President Obama: Resolved: In view of the many problems that you face and the many promises you made for change it is now incumbent upon you to demonstrate the courage and the strength to stand tall in the face of so much adversity. To many, you are appearing weak and ineffective and that is not what or who you are. In the coming year you must not waver. You must not allow the Republican Party members to dilute your resolve on the issues you were elected to deal with. You must lead this country and fix the economy. You must not sign a health care bill that does not include a public option. You must end these senseless wars and bring out young men and women home safely. We wanted change when we went to the polls. You promised that change. It’s now time to bring that change to fruition. More jobs…health care for all…an end to the wars…all equal a better tomorrow and a place for you in history. Wavering and backtracking as well as kowtowing should never be your style.
  • Be fair to seniors. I pay a lot of taxes -although I am just middle income- and I have always supported programs for working poor citizens.
  • I admire Senator Al Franken and urge him to continue to challenge Republicans and some of his fellow Democrats by exposing their outrageous lies. Congress is now wholly owned by Big Business and special interests. It no longer matters how the people vote in an election, as proven since the presidential contest in 2008. Congress and the White House dance to the tune of Wall Street and their corporate masters and the people be damned. I also urge the removal of any and all influence brought to bear by religious beliefs on the country’s legislation. It’s unconstitutional and nonsensical to allow such meddling by the clergy and their flocks. We need more and stricter gun control laws. We need to get out of Afghanistan and Iraq now, closing the US bases as we go. We need to recognize Israel as a dangerous, bellicose, mischievous nation and one that must be defanged and contained. We need to concentrate on the US and its beleaguered citizens once again.
  • Senator Bernie Sanders: Keep up the great things you are doing for the entire country. I don’t know if you can do more than you are already doing, but thank you and keep on fighting for all of us.
  • Obama: I will look to the progressive Democrats who got me elected and advance their causes in 2010.
  • Senator McCain, please work with President Obama, do the right thing and get immigration reform passed. You can do it. Prayers are with you and Cindy and the family in 2010.
  • A political leader i support? Again you have to be kidding.
  • To President Obama: Continue to keep your counsel until you have all the facts. Do not be pressed into acting precipitously. And DO continue to listen to all sides. However, you’ve given the Republicans more than a fair chance to participate. In the diversity of the Democratic Party, we have healthy debates on the issues. In their present stance, the Republicans can contribute nothing.
  • Force Congress to revisit the Constitution on such issues as war powers, becoming a co-equal branch of government, using the power of impeachment against former officials who committed war crimes, etc.
  • Obama – Stand firm for democratic principals and stop playing footsies with the right wing
  • Resolve to Get Boosh & Cheney for war crimes. Until that is done not much else will move forward
  • President Obama, please bring to light the large influence that these lobbying groups still have over congress.
  • To any that will listen; close the gap between the haves ant have-nots. Get control of runaway corporations, insist that they behave as patriotic citizens, not self-serving entities that are above the law.
  • Dennis- resolved, keep standing up for we, the muzzled majority!
  • The “New Senate Bill”, does not include the Public Option. Our Civil Right to Live. To firmly establishes health care as a Civil Right, Consistent with the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States and Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, which defines a purpose of Government “to Promote the General Welfare,” of each citizen! Reinstate thee Kucinich Amendment to HR3200. Mr. President, I voted for you. I truly believed in you when you, Insisted, that there would be a “Public Option”. Anything less, is not Reform. It’s just a Grandstand Compromise Bailout, for the Insurance & Pharmaceutical Industry. Just like the Banks got. Except w/ a mandate for millions of new customers! What a Travesty! I hoped you would be better for our great country. And not follow, the path set forth by the last Administration! HOPE for Real Change, where is it now, I ask you Sir?
  • Resolve to get a real job, meet a payroll before making national economic decisions
  • President Obama should realize that the Republicans have no interest in cooperation and are only interested in destroying his presidency. Knowing that, President Obama should work to help the country while strengthening (or bringing back) his base. President Obama should implement a jobs program, include a public option in any health care coverage, and get us out of the wars we’re in.
  • Getting people back to work, crafting a health care plan for people, not for profit, and bringing peace will improve the country and his standing
    .
  • I promise to speak out against the entrenched corporate interests that control Washington; I promise to speak up for ordinary Americans who continue to be ignored and neglected by the representatives they elected; and I promise to put doing what’s right for the country ahead of my own personal and political gain.
  • Dennis Kucinich, don’t drop out of any elections until at least I can vote for you!
  • Hi Linda Sanchez, Be resolved you will fight tooth and nail to end the wars in IRAQ and Afghanistan. Support government based health care system such as single payer. Fight for green jobs such as building of solar panels, wind turbines. Stand up to the automakers and demand hybrid and electric vehicles and overall lower emission vehicles. Your plan should include High-speed rail. How about putting youth to work with jobs programs such as when I was a teenager. Do you remember CETA? Community Employment Training Act? How about spending more money to provide free or low cost college education?
  • Dennis Kucinich, continue to inspire us all and reassure us that there are a few in public office that do what they know is right. Resolve that you will not let them get you down and that you will take care of your beautiful and brilliant wife and inspire her to keep fighting too.
  • Barrack Obama, realize whose votes put you in office and cut off the rich and the powerful. They didn’t elect you, the voters of the nation elected you and 95+% of us ARE NOT rich conniving asses who take advantage of the nation to increase our riches, use the poor as cannon fodder, make our money off mercenaries (think Black Water and that ilk), use insurance companies to make sure that the working people and the poor lack decent, adequate medical care, etc. On the contrary we work hard, support our families as best we can, try to educate our children, hope for decent social security and Medicare as we get older and support single payer, a Medicare like or better, program of medical care that takes care of the needs of all the people instead of the present “private” system that provides care for the rich who have the do ray me to pay while rationing medical care to all the rest.
  • Dear President Obama, as you continue to learn and grow, have greater confidence in you innate intelligence and savvy. Some, who may be giving you advice, have ways of doing things that have proven not productive in your first year.
  • Tell one person out of hundreds? What good will that does?
  • Health Care, end the drone attacks and bring peace to the Middle East.
  • I have no words. I think Corporate America has taken over. So sad.
  • Sorry, it’s too late. Unless we have publicly funded campaigns, from top to bottom starting now, American politics will continue to drag this Country to its doom, if we’re not already there.
  • Stop stealing our nation’s resources to kill people in other nations. It’s got to stop.
  • Work toward peace, and renewable energy-based environmental actions for jobs, buildings, farms, factories, transportation, health care. Take out the profit motive in government by stopping and reversing the privatization of so many government services. This will save lots of money and employees will be held accountable.
  • For Dennis Kucinich: Speak out against U.S. foreign policy. Tell the truth without pulling any punches. The United States is the biggest terrorist country in the world. We are living a Big Lie and it is time to make that known to the majority of U.S. citizens
  • President Obama: Go left young man!
  • I will not reach out to Republicans. It obviously doesn’t work. Hit back hard when they spread their lies. And threaten the blue dogs with everything you’ve got to keep them in line on the big stuff.
  • Why bother wasting time contacting the puppets.
  • To President Barrack Obama, Please resolve to continue to listen to “The American People”. We need even more Health Care Reform, an effective jobs program that will protect our jobs here, while extending a hand to the global market and we must make an effort to help the world find peaceful coexistence.
  • To Dennis Kucinich: Please continue to support the causes that you have ratified to date. How positive to see your ethics and doggedness in action on a repeated basis!
  • President Obama: I pray daily for your protection and safety. I pray that you will continually feel God’s presence in your life. I know that God’s unfailing love surrounds you constantly, and that as an idea of God you can only reflect qualities of wisdom, courage, intelligence, understanding, resourcefulness, gratitude, intuition, energy, naturalness, spiritual sense, joy, peace, hope, humor, law, order, justice, dominion, fairness, progress, growth, steadfastness, tenacity, persistence, health, readiness, ability, honesty, integrity, virtue, righteousness, fidelity, kindness, goodness, unselfishness, forgiveness, patience, generosity, humility, meekness, modesty, moderation, politeness, affection, gentleness, empathy, thoughtfulness, etc. You are in God’s loving protection constantly.
  • WE need a revised constitution in California.
  • I’ll help anyone running against Jim DeMint in SC.
  • Barbara Boxer should continue the good fight.
  • Ronnie Earl, go for the center. Expose the workings of the insurance industry and other special interests in Texas. Make the race be about real Texans.
  • Continue to get the economic recovery within the U.S., especially jobs for the service sector, small business stimulus.
  • We need Medicare for all. Please put it in something that only requires 51 votes.
  • Dennis K., keep up the good work — let your courage be an example to all.
  • I pass on this one…. Who am I to write a resolution for someone else? This is NOT a fair question
  • I will resolve to return to fair taxation where the wealthiest pay tax rates that reflect their opportunities. Apply an 80% top rate on the wealthiest. Investment income should be taxed at the same rate as any other income. Tax each stock trade. California should return to a 13% top tax rate. Tax-avoiding offshore businesses should be prohibited from operating in, or on behalf of the U.S.
  • The U.S. should withdraw from NAFTA and GATT and impose tariffs taking full account of wage differentials, imbalanced currency evaluations and environmental costs. Any country shipping toxic products should be banned from U.S. commerce.
  • The Bush wars are not winnable and set up retaliation. They must be stopped now.
  • I resolve to obtain Medicare for all by just allowing all ages to buy in.
  • California and the west has no more water. All immigration must be stopped and illegal immigrants returned home. Agricultural subsidies should be available only for organic farming.
  • Think about the issues and everyday concerns of people who actually work for a living….the bus driver, the nurse, the schoolteacher, the community organizer, the public safety officer. And remember, a chain is only as strong as its WEAKEST link.
  • President Obama neither you nor the Nation deserve this: “He contends that the legislation matches the proposal he campaigned on: Every single criteria for reform I put forward is in this bill, adding I did not campaign on the public option.” [By Scott Wilson, Washington Post, December 22, 2009]
  • I am unhappy and discouraged to see the top man of USA prevaricate and try to revise even the very recent history. During his campaign President promoted the Public Option and to many including me he is the one who introduced the term. Ed Schultz showed a clip where candidate Obama talks about the Public Option with passion. In fact Ed wanted that Obama back. In his umpteen speeches as President, before he stopped talking about it perhaps as a prelude to plausible denial, he espoused the PO as the best means of achieving lowered cost, foster competition and keep the insurance companies honest in following the regulations.
  • As governor of California, whichever Democrat wins must support Mark Leno’s SB810 bill for single payer healthcare for CALIFORNIANS.
  • Dennis Kucinich, Please continue to run for office. We do support your positive efforts to balance out this nation’s economy using pro-active steps. Be forceful.
  • I, Barrack Hussein Obama, resolve to find a way to communicate and affect the truth I know in my heart, that a war on terrorism is a perpetuation of both. I will withdraw our troops from Iraq and Afghanistan as quickly as possible, using the money saved to help develop those nations and create jobs in ours.
  • For Jackie Speier: I love and respect you; but you HAVE to get yourself to Israel and begin to understand the complexities of that region’s problems. As long as you have to depend on others’ lobbying efforts to inform you, you will be at a disadvantage re: a very important part of your job.
  • President Obama needs to push for massive funding to put people to work, including a new WPA, green jobs, more funding for mass public transit, mental health programs, education, and aid to local, county, and state governments. He and the Senate Democratic leadership must not allow the Republicans and Lieberman to filibuster our programs.
  • Barrack Obama: I will follow my conscience and forget my need to be liked. Thanks, Sharon and Dick, for all you do.
  • To all Dems in Congress… get a spine and stand up for real healthcare reform… Medicare for
  • I hereby swear that I will not willingly and knowingly accept one dime of campaign funding, direct or indirect from any business organization that profits directly or indirectly from any position I might take, pro or con, while in office. Furthermore, I promise to spend 90% of my time in office taking care of legitimate business – the issues and concerns of the people in my district who elected me.
  • President Obama, Please keep pushing for real healthcare reform with a public options and do not agree to a compromise, which doesn’t include a public option. A Public option already is a compromise away from single payer.
  • I, President Obama, will stop trying to be bi-partisan. It does not work with the Republican Party.
  • I admire Dennis Kucinich and several other progressive. I look to all of them to stay strong and not go along with bad legislation. We have close to 60 progressives in the House and that is enough for real bargaining power – use it!
  • Don’t lie. Don’t promise what you can’t deliver. Tell us what you really think. It has been so long since I have had a President that I respect or a party that I could count on. I’m leaving…
  • This is for Barrack Obama, You can’t please all the people all of the time and you can’t please Republicans none of the time. Stop trying to appease them and do what you think is right for the people and this country.
  • Reenergize the progressive base with good proposals and lots of public appearances. Be the leader. Don’t defer to Congress and fight for what you want. Let the Congress water it down, as it inevitably will.
  • My resolution is for President Obama. “In 2010 I resolve to LISTEN to my Progressive base (those who actually GOT me INTO office!), and strive to push for progressive policies and legislation.”
  • Senator Dodd, Keep up the effort to reform the Banking system, to impose sensible regulation, and proper anti-trust legislation.
  • Public funded elections now! Public funded elections now!
  • Mr. President: Keep press’in man!!!
  • We elected B. Obama and you and other Democrats to fulfill progressive ideals, especially universal health care. Most of us wanted a single payer plan and still do. We are disappointed that none of you had the guts to even bring it to a discussion, let alone a vote. In the future, stand up for progressive ideals and quit bowing to the big money. You will need more campaign finance reform in order to give Democrats the spine to stand up to them. As it is, it appears Big Corp, Big Pharma, and Big Health Care are buying your loyalties. This is corruption, in my opinion, and the system needs to change.
  • Speak honestly to the people about who runs this country.
  • President Obama, Pray, listen for God’s direction and do what God wants you to do. Stay focused and know that it will all work out the way that it is intended to. Get sleep, rest, eat right, exercise, don’t worry, enjoy your life and your family. Remember this is a job and unlike others will end soon enough. Remember what really counts . . . being the best representative for God. Love the way that God wants us to.
  • Remember that you are a *public servant* and that the highest office in the land is *citizen*.
  • President Obama: I resolve to do everything and anything to create jobs for American workers by penalizing business that take jobs overseas and rewarding those who don’t. I resolve to bring all American troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan this year and spend the money saved to improve the lives of suffering Americans instead.
  • To Pres. Obama — the people elected you; they want to see you do the things you promised. You are going to need to hang tough at times re all of the following: Afghanistan Jobs
  • Global Warming Gay rights Immigration Serious regulation of the financial industry. You have inherited a horrendous mess, but that won’t excuse you forever. The people expect to see some backbone. We’re waiting.
  • To pay attention to the will of the individual and not the corporation.
  • President Obama, Continue the mission you started. The American people stand behind you.
  • Obama, please reconsider your stance on Afghanistan before it becomes what Iraq was to Mr. Bush. A non-winnable situation that can bring your administration and the Democratic Party down.
  • Continue to fight for the common good and to articulate the role of monopoly capitalism in the degradation of our environment and our lives.
  • President Barrack Obama: Fight Al Quaida with the intelligence community, not the Military, and cut the military budget by half to start!
  • President Obama quit catering to the GOP; they are never going to help you.
  • Thanks to this pack of bought-and-paid-for-scoundrels, I am all for a congress of one-term politicians! How’s THAT for “term limits”??
  • Pelosi. Put all your power and influence toward a jobs program installing sustainable energy systems throughout the USA. Fight for US companies and create greater taxes for off shore and NAFTA profits.
  • Decide what needs to be done in the best interests of the people of the US and get it done despite “special interests” and upcoming elections. This should include: firm oversight of the healthcare industry to keep health care affordable for individuals and small business and work toward a single payer system, develop firm oversight of banks and lending institutions, develop a realistic plan to get us out of Afghanistan.
  • Mr. President, You are LOSING YOUR BASE!! We will NOT support you next election if you don’t get WAY MORE PROGRESSIVE!! You are betting we will but WE WON”T!!! WAKE UP!!! ll
  • Put people first. A secure America is a country where people can count on jobs, housing, health care, education, and freedom from discrimination. GUN CONTROL NOW. We are too intimidated not just by the NRA but the gun-carrying rightwing who pose the country’s greatest internal security threat. In Australia, it took only one massacre for the country to turn in its guns.
  • Denny, Barbara (not Boxer), Mike: hang in there!
  • For Barrack Obama: When extending an open hand to the Republicans, please lead off with your middle finger. Play more basketball and less golf. Find another world leader that you can trust and rely on.
  • Please keep praying to God to give you the Holy Spirit for direction in your decisions.
  • Senator Diane Feinstein I will get out of politics and make room for someone who supports the will of the people.
  • Keep backing sensible policies, like more equitable distribution of wealth, creating real jobs instead of off-shoring them, reinstate tariffs to support domestic manufacturing and consumption, better concentration of taxes on those who can best afford them, more programs to benefit the majority, and end all entitlements to those who need it the least (corporations and the rich). And tell that President of ours to stop being such a pussy.
  • To Marcy Winograd -WIN!!
  • President Obama. You are too generous with those of the opposition who are trying to destroy you and your programs. Point out the hypocrisy and demand performance from people like Senator Demint of SC who aim to dismantle the government for partisan gain.
  • I’ve given up any hope that any progressive change will come via our electoral system. Corporations own this country, so the only way to effect change is through money. Progressives need an entirely new approach and to stop wasting any time and money on Democrats. Dems might as well be Republicans. The whole country has shifted right with little to no representation for what the majority of Americans want – to end war, to provide health care for all, and to stop the destruction of the planet. We are headed to third world status. Obama has handed Wall Street ALL our country’s money, and there really isn’t anything you can do with no money is there? US is quickly becoming a third world country with a grotesque division of wealth.
  • Resolve that President Obama should end the Afghan War by 12-31-11. Be it further resolved that the U.s. should never go to War without allies.
  • Dennis Kucinich – Keep trying. People will listen eventually.
  • For Joe Lieberman: Resolved, I’ll give up all the ego and posturing and will take a good look at what is best for the country at large rather than for special interests of any kind.
  • This is for all those who champion the phrase (I will put more cops on the street), there is no analytical data anywhere that support the theory that more cops mean less crime. Their are many other ways we can spend tax dollars instead of funding more do nothing public menacing cops. they don’t prevent crime they often only come in after the fact, and assist in screwing the facts up even more. If you must have at minimum a college degree to practice social work, then don’t you think you should at least be required to have a degree to carry a gun, and enforce laws written by college graduates, and attorneys?
  • This is for Dennis Kucinich. Continue your resistance to the rise of fascism in America and make it very clear that what you are doing is resisting the rise of fascism in America. The original definition of fascism by the Italian philosopher Giovanni Gentile is as follows: Fascism, a system of government that exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, typically through the merging of state and business leadership, together with belligerent nationalism. Giovanni Gentile’s definition of fascism was the source for the definition of fascism in the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language which is as follows: Fascism, a philosophy or system of government that advocates or exercises a dictatorship of the extreme right, typically through the merging of state and business leadership, together with an ideology of belligerent nationalism.
  • President and First Lady Obama: Please take a stand to be the first Presidential family to champion global environmental issues. America has led the race in polluting the Earth and is now passing the torch to China. We must not leave a devastated wasteland of a world behind to our future grandchildren. Your administration can be the first to pull its head out of the sand and do its best to make policy re global warming, ending ocean and air pollution, growing solar energy, ensuring rights to access safe drinking water, saving rainforests, and slowing the extinction of animals worldwide. This is my hope: that you will focus on saving the Earth of which America is part. May God bless you, your family, our nation, and our world.
  • Accept the awful fact that Republicans are simply out to get you…to thwart any and all of your agendas. They are bitter, mean-spirited, sore losers who don’t care one whit about their constituents or the good of the country as a whole. Call them out. Continue your pragmatic approach to getting things done. We understand the we (you) can’t always get everything we want and need, but we will accept getting things started. The present Health Care bills in the final process of completion aren’t what we want, or need, but it’s a start. Congress can build on this in the future. We need to start gearing up for the mid-term elections..NOW !!
  • End corporate personhood.
  • I support you and me and fellow ordinary citizens. We can make policy decisions on balance as good or better as any so-called ‘leader’, and less corrupted, because we don’t have exclusive oligarchic power. If you also hold political office, help us faster get long-overdue constitutional changes for real democracy and reasoned decision at all levels. Every decision should be made – or anyhow reviewed, with power to affirm or veto – by a randomly chosen jury of willing citizens. All public policy decisions should be open to timely challenge and review to stand (or fall) by explicit cogent rationale given for them, not merely because they are politicians’ whims. Right now, for the future of nature and our planet, replace Ken ‘Palin’ Salazar, push green jobs and Repower America programs to put us on primarily renewable energy, phase-in and enforce big carbon-emission taxes, and credibly demand all nations to rapidly cut per-cap carbon emissions to get us to 350 ppm CO2 equivalent.
  • Get us out of the unending cycle of wars and poverty. We are one planet. And we are dying.
  • Congressman Xavier Becerra — Introduce legislation in the Congress to end DADT, end DOMA, end the Cuban embargo, bring all the troops home from Afghanistan and Iraq, and end support for the right-wing policies of the Israeli government (including continued settlements in E. Jerusalem and the W. Bank).
  • Xavier Becerra. Speak up more. Your truly represent my interests. And more reps who care about the people instead of the almighty dollar need to take control away from lobbyists and business interests.
  • Barbara Boxer should get as courageous and outrageous as possible – She has all the support anyone could ever have, to stand up for bold, long-term, big, big, big progressives initiatives.
  • Barbara Lee: Hold Fast
  • Obama, stop reaching across the table unless you like getting your hand bitten. The only thing that could possibly make a Republican happy would be to find some way to destroy your political career and assure a Republican victory in 2010 and 2012, good of the country be damned.
  • Any and all Democrats; Take a firm stand for what is good for the country, not party or donors. Act like it is a movement and it will become a movement. be a leader!
  • Work on Jobs Jobs Jobs Place limits on the financial market immediately. Create a public option for health care
  • Speaker John Perez— you have time to walk calmly down the road of Speaker for 5 years…*** Please make the most of it. ***** –CA has to have more cooperation on major issues that should not always divide the Assembly Chamber. –CA has to get the State financially back on the right track. — Wine Industry lobby is too strong and wrong about the role it must play in state finances–$.25 –.$ .50 a gallon would not stop folks from buying a bottle ( An additional $.25 will not stop consumers…and yet it would contribute so much. Wine is everywhere in the state.
  • To Nancy Pelosi: Get a health care bill passed. Correct the worst of the Senate shortcomings and the House’s (e.g. Stupak amendment) but don’t get hung up on a public option. Try to get it to take effect sooner than 2014. Once the bill is passed and signed, then work to improve it.
  • The lot of them: Resign now! If by some slim chance you’re sincerely in the political racket solely for the public interest, support someone competent to replace you who also wants to serve the commonweal. Otherwise just get lost and stop messing up our country and the world (you might consider a hobby like vegetable gardening)!
  • for OMB- ASK FOR ACCOUNTABILITY & TRANSPARENCY IN STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS & all NON PROFITS. Detail what they have done well and what they have failed at for honest assessment. And how they plan to Better use federal $$ in 2010 to actually help people including with disabilities to be able make the USA stronger, not just budgets fatter.
  • To Senator Barbara Boxer: California and the country need to keep you in the U.S. Senate. Make lots of visits throughout California, including Fresno, in 2010. Obama: speak out loud and clear. Don’t waffle your points. Lets fight terrorism by creating peace in the Middle East. Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied territories is the key. Dear Congressman Kucinich, please keep your seat! Look for consensus, but don’t be fooled by stall tactics in the republicans, recognize them for the moral corrupt lot that they are and use any means to crush their know-nothing approach.
  • TO PRESIDENT OBAMA; PLEASE STAY STRONG. STAY FOCUSED ON THE PEOPLE WHO TRUST YOU AND LOVE YOU. WE KNOW THE ENTRENCHED EVIL YOU HAVE TO BATTLE. BUT THE TRUTH IS ON THE VERGE OF COMING OUT. THE PEOPLE WILL SUPPORT YOU AND NO HARM WILL COME TO YOU. TAKE AS AN EXAMPLE HOW EVIL WAS THWARTED ON CHRISTMAS HIGH UP IN THE AIR BY ORDINARY PEOPLE. WITH LOVE AND FAITH YOU AND THE PEOPLE WILL ACIEVE OUR GOAL.
  • PLEASE HELP PRESIDENT MANUEL ZELAY. HE IS ON THE SIDE OF THE PEOPLE. YOU CAN SEE HOW THE INNER DARKNESS WANTS TO DESTROY HIM
  • President Obama, please become a stronger political champion of health insurance reform, banking industry reform, environmental legislation — unite the Dem. caucus around a more progressive message. Gain the upper hand by more arm-twisting of recalcitrant Blue Dogs, including the use of the bully pulpit in congressional districts.
  • in support of Debra Bowen, future candidate for CA Governor.
  • Proposed resolution: I will support the broad aims of a democracy and stand in opposition to our State’s economic elite who are trying to advance their bank account at the expense of the general welfare of the citizens. This starts with assuring fair, open and honest elections. I will support a progressive agenda including single payer health insurance, more rehabilitation and less retribution in criminal justice and a tax system that protects local governments and school districts. I will budget civic improvements on a pay as you go basis. I will oppose the 2/3 rule for passing the budget and other economic laws. Russ Feingold- keep fighting for progressive issues
  • Darcel Woods – running for the 59th AD – get members of local Dem clubs to mentor high school Dem clubs throughout the AD HS students need to know about government much earlier than now learned/taught – I was horrified to learn that my own grandchildren (HS jr, HS fresh, and 8th grader) did NOT know the duties of the 3 branches of government – barely knew the 3 branches – on either the federal or state levels. I am very involved in local Dem activities but was unaware of the ignorance of my family! Remember the purpose that Pres. Obama stood for to get elected. Change the posture of Congress image of being whores for Lobbyist! Election Reform!!! I’d rather write to leftists around the country, and lefty liberals, to ask what is keeping us from forming a socialist party. I’d like left discussions this year to address the problem of having a Senate, instead of a Parliament. Move the focus away from diplomacy on nukes which will be ultimately futile to a diplomacy based on encouraging more direct engagement by rising powers like India, China, Brazil and Turkey in the security needs of the world’s underdeveloped, energy/resource exporters. Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich: Keep up the fight! President Obama, learn how to practice hardball politics. Resolve, that Barrack Obama continues to move forward, regardless of obstacles, on policies that he believes are essential for the well being of the country.
  • President Obama: Please get a single payer public option system paid for by taxes enacted into law. For President Obama: It looks like a relatively weak health care bill will be put into law in 2010. As your administration continues please build on this framework and further improve access, cost control, etc. for healthcare in the U.S.
  • GET THE REPUBLICANS TO TAKE CONTROL OF THE SENATE AND HOUSE. WE NEED TO RUN THIS COUNTRY ON A COMPETITIVE ECONOMY AND NOT TURN THE US INTO A MUSLIM AND SOCIALIST ECONOMY.
  • Islamic terror should be addressed with police and diplomacy, not military intervention.
  • President Obama, Please push for a federal mandate that enforces equality for LGBT people, much like the Civil Rights Act of 1964 did for people of color. If Civil Rights were left up to states or popular vote, there would still be people of color drinking from separate water fountains in some Southern states. Please enforce separation of church and state. Tax-exempt “religious” organizations should not be permitted to dictate laws that prohibit LGBT tax-paying citizens from being equal.
  • President Obama, Please continue to work to keep the promises you pledges you made. Do not let those who oppose your addenda block your way. I want you to address the economy, unemployment and our ballooning deficit!!!! Let’s make the climate good for business. Stop the government takeovers, reduce taxes, stop the wars, and listen to the people who voted you in. If you are going to make laws, they should include you too (health care). Do not try the terrorists in the US courts for the world to see. Stop all the stimulus programs. We keep propping prices up when the free market should dictate them. The cash for clunkers only helped the foreign carmakers at our expense. NO MORE BAILOUTS! We prop up the diseased companies and give their leaders huge payouts and don’t help the good businesses who are suffering at no fault of their own. It’s time to listen to Main Street and the people who elected you.
  • FOR BARBARA BOXER… YOU ARE MY SENATOR AND I AM SO THANKFUL FOR THAT BECAUSE YOU WON’T BACK DOWN. PLEASE RESOLVE FOR THIS NEW YEAR TO KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT, AND ESPECIALLY FOR THE RIGHTS OF WOMEN. HELP US TO GAIN THE POWER WE NEED TO PUSH BACK ON THE EXTREMEST WHO WISH TO PUNISH US JUST FOR BEING WOMEN. I KNOW WE CAN COUNT ON YOU…
  • I, Barrack Hussein Obama, resolve to do what the people who voted for me want me to do, and not what the people who hate me want me to do.
  • Obama, pass EFCA. Forget working with the GOP and work to get jobs for all who want to work.
  • Dear Obama, please keep making progressive reforms at every opportunity, especially with the FDA, SEC, and FTC.
  • Lynn Williams, candidate for Governor of Maine. “I hope you surprise the voters of Maine and make history”
  • Howard Dean please run for president in 2012!!
  • To All Democrats (including the good ones): Grow a spine
  • Fix the system or quit putting on the charade that anything you’re doing under the present system is going to make anything better:
  • Call a Constitutional Convention (at both state and Federal levels). Enact Majority Rule. Enact Clean Money Elections. Take back the PUBLIC airwaves for the people (reinstate the fairness doctrine)
  • Obama : Go Left. Inspire your base. Strip the Blue Dogs of power. Educate the country to the realities of corporate control. We progressives have been on the defensive far far too long. Our values, after all, are what the country was founded on – justice, equal treatment, uplifting everyone, which in turn uplifts the whole society (rich and poor) — we must stop defending and start iterating and defining our values over and over and over, until the message is heard. I believe that would resonate with people, and that it would quell the ugly right-wing rhetoric and lies. Put values above dollars. Explain how a healthy, educated citizenry would make this a country we could all be proud of. Ask a wealthy progressive to set up a media network for spreading our message – take a lesson from the right-wingers.
  • To Jerry Brown, I want to tell him I supported him in the 1970′s/80′s and I have confidence in him today. I believe he has intelligence and vision, and he seems to be able to sell new ideas to California, which is especially important today. He needs to keep at it.
  • Jerry Brown, I’m glad your running for Gov. I’d like to start hearing your leadership ASAP. Our state is in big trouble. Another 20 Billion-budget deficit next year. Huge numbers of folk’s unemployed – many skilled workers are leaving California. Our schools risk falling all the way to 50th out 50. Can you begin to influence change now? Can you draw voters in to constructive activism now
