Friday Feedback: Fighting Over Scraps

istock_000001483014xsmall.jpgFridays the LA Progressive features a comment that was particularly noteworthy. This week we are featuring a comment submitted by Hollis Stewart, commenting on “The Usual Suspects: Arizona and the Black/Latino Divide,” by Sikivu Hutchinson. Here’s Hollis’s comment:

I saw a great sign downtown today in the Immigration Reform March, “Jose didn’t take your job — Goldman-Sachs did.”

It is time that those who are having a hard time began to show the courage to blame the ones who have really trampled on them: Goldman-Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Bank of America, Chase, Exxon, BP, and the filthy rich who didn’t get that way by doing the work. They took the value created by the work of the mass of people, including about 350 years of slavery, as their own and became fabulously wealthy — and they are still doing it with taxpayer bailouts, guarantees by the government to protect their wealth, etc. Immigrants working for minimum wage or less are not the ones who are robbing our nation.

It is the banksters, corporate managers, oil corporations and the military-industrial-financial complex and wealthy parasites who are doing it to us. When we get the courage to go after them then we can have a better life and a really civil civil society without petty fights over the scraps falling from the edge of the table.

Actually thirty years of Neo Con policies followed by both parties destroyed your job, your retirement, your social safety net, encouraged illegal immigration and the globalization of Capitalism. Naming Goldman Sachs or BP for a particular disaster is unfair. Its a government/corporate web of thievery and oppression. All the Blue Dog Rat Bastards and most of the Clinton Administration are as culpable as the Reagans and Bushies. Remember NAFTA and Ending Welfare as We Know It?

My friend, you apparently don’t know how ICE (the old MIGRA) works. After a person is picked up they are not told they have a right to a lawyer and will be provided one for free if they can not afford one, even though they have that right. They are often told that if they will just accept being deported back to their country that there being picked up and deported will not be used against them in the future, but it is. And so on and so forth. More to the point even, this new law in Arizona will not and cannot be used without racial profiling and if racial profiling is allowed then whom is the next group that it will be applied to in different circumstances? Remember in the 1930s it wasn’t the Jews who were targeted first by the Nazis, it was homosexuals, Pentecostals, gypsies and others. Little small groups that could be made the butt of the anger of people in Germany and surrounding countries. Then, when the 3rd Reich was ready for the big time they went after the Jews and we know the consequences. The point is as has been written (paraphrase): First they came for the homosexuals and I said nothing because I am not a homosexual, then they came for the gypsies and I said nothing because I am not a gypsy, then they came for the Jews and I said nothing because I am not a Jew, now they have come for me and there is no one left to say No! As good Americans it is our responsibility to say no now, build social cohesion in a just society and then legislate at the proper, federal, level immigration law that will seek to resolve the problem. If instead we look around for bad examples and follow them then what have we shown ourselves to be?

People who take jobs at wages below scale, do take jobs from some and hold back others. I have lived all over Asia and Europe and people in those countries without legal papers were in big trouble. I can get in trouble in Mexico without papers and there, like others places, one can disapear into a jail without a trace.

The USA is the only country where even those who are here without a legal reason have some legal standing. Most US boneheads have no clue about the rest of the world.
