On September 9, 2009 while President Barack Obama was addressing congress, Rep. Joe Wilson yelled, “you lie” as the president discussed what was in or not in the healthcare reform bill. Wilson’s outburst can be heard in the video below.
Joe Wilson, a congressional representative from the state of South Carolina, is a conservative who remains opposed to the president’s approach to solving the healthcare crisis. According to Wikipedia, his real name is Addison Graves Wilson, Sr., but he is usually referred to as Joe Wilson. He’s been active in the Republican party since he was a young man and came to represent the 2nd congressional district of South Carolina in 2001.
Sen. John McCain was interviewed on Larry King Live immediately following the president’s speech. When asked his opinion of Wilson’s behavior Senator McCain replied, “Totally disrespectful. No place for it in that setting or any other and he should apologize immediately.”
Rachel Maddow reported that Wilson has submitted an apology to the White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel.
