Obama and Leftists Survey — Question 2

ron paul clownsQ2 Given the antics of the cavalcade of clowns vying for the Republican presidential nomination, what do you this election cycle?

  • I’m not sure things would get worse than they are under Obama.
  • The same thing that will happen if Barack Bush wins.
  • Economic inequality will continue to increase; wars will be never ending
  • The worst clowns will fail. Mitt R. will be much like Obama.
  • More societal decay, more national decline, more suffering, more despair, more hopelessness, more wealth going to the already rich, almost certainly another war that won’t be paid for.
  • CHAOS AND CALAMITY HERE & ABROAD.
  • With any luck we will have more progressives in congress, and it will not matter. Democrats and all those considered left would never have let a Republican get away with what Obama has.
  • Bad stuff. Same as under BHO but “funnier”/weirder (?!?).
  • rush to the rapture, 99% go bust, I will move out of the country.
  • more of the same
  • I am really cautious about stereotyping, but the idea of Romney getting elected really scares the hell out of me. I don’t even want to think about the influence the Mormon Church might have with Romney in the White House. I think Newt Gingrich is a loose cannon, but I think mainstream America recognizes that, and I don’t think he has a chance. Santorum would be a disaster in the realm of women’s reproductive rights and other fundamentalist issues. I would be very worried about Supreme Court appointments.
  • not good, but it won’t be the Apocalypse
  • The positive social gains that we have achieved over the years will be greatly endangered. Additionally the banks and big business will continue to grow and disenfranchise the middle and working class Americans.
  • Difficult to predict. Candidates promise one thing and once they are in office they do something else.
  • The issues facing the country cannot be solved by one person – the President would still find it difficult to affect change roughly the same as Obama’s re-election
  • Things would be worse than under George W. Bush
  • Moderates might wake up and take to the streets.
  • Given a Republican Congress, We the People would be further reduced to a state of neo-feudalism, or Rights would continue to be strip-mined, and the Military/Security State would dominate both the economy and the culture.
  • We will invade Iran and get back into Iraq. The rich will prosper and the poor will suffer. the economy would be ruined for the poor and middle class
  • We would find a reason to start another war. Efforts underway to crush unions at the state level would increase exponentially with support from the White House. The country would increasingly become a two-class society: the haves and the have nots, as you see so many places around the world.
  • Many Progressive issues that we’ve seen major or minor progress on during his campaign will be reversed like Bush did after Clinton.
  • Disaster
  • Wholesale gutting of any progressive government entities and programs.
  • very very bad news
  • probably no difference
  • If it’s Paul, the wars will end and freedom will return.
  • The middle and low income families will disappear.
  • Repeal of healthcare legislation, Safety net dismantled, taxes for rich repealed andpossible conservative justice appointed to Supreme Court.
  • Biz as usual! The decline would be swift, direct & clean!
  • An economic collapse leading to IMF/World Bank austerity.
  • Disaster for generations and immediately
  • The Great Depression II, only worse
  • A mistake to dismiss them as clowns – they are as serious as a heart attack. they would hasten the further destruction of the social safety net, the despoiling of the environment, the imposition of theocratic limits on human rights, etc.
  • To spur more people to get involved in real change when all of their safety nets are gone, to get candidates that will restore democracy for the people, by the people.
  • we as a nation will fall.
  • Disaster. Potential fascism. Rebellion.
  • Disaster
  • Useless speculation divorced from reality
  • It will pull the population HARD to the left
  • Progressives would stop supporting Fascists cause they have a D by their name, and like with GWB work against that which they’d support any Democrat doing.
  • “Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power.” Benito Mussolini
  • We would move closer to the Tea Party’s view of what the country should be.
  • We’ll finish going broke, racism will rise, jobless rates in the black community will skyrocket, war will continue, gay community will suffer, back alley abortion will go up and we will lose more ground to other nations
  • The right would have more power BUT perhaps then even liberals would join in grass-roots protest movements.
  • We’d have more people struggling for work, longer. And the people who vote against their own best interests still won’t get it.
  • I don’t want to entertain the idea! The middle class, regular people would be in even worse shape.
  • Nothing
  • rich just keep getting richer
  • we would be embarrassed as the rest of the world would die laughing until they chokeded to death
  • refuse to answer
  • Full blown depression and totally politicized Supreme Court
  • Pretty much what’s been going on since 2008.
  • we would be much better off, because progressives would be back in the streets.
  • Scary policies toward gays. More conservative Supreme Court Justices. More advantages for rich and large corporations. Collapse of the middle class. etc. etc. etc.
  • I don’t know. I think Romney will be the nominee.
  • The rich will continue to get richer and the middle class will disappear.
  • Country would revert 50 years
  • Not much because the Dems will start blocking all his initiatives in Congress just like the Repubs have been doing to Obama. More gridlock, nothing gets done.
  • A decline in investment in America
  • It is frightening to think that many Americans might just give up when it is just the opposite that we should be doing. We are at war right here in our own country and we don’t even recognize it.
  • move to Canada
  • depression and war
  • Might move to Canada
  • Nothing would be different.
  • The United States of America will cease to exist appropriately
  • Time to move to Canada
  • unregulated predatory capitalism
  • more religion, more austerity, more poverty, less freedom
  • We would be set back a hundred years.
  • I am afraid we would rapidly slide into a serious depression which will greatly harm our country & especially our poorest citizens. I also believe it would take a very long time to recover from this!
  • won’t be good
  • catastrophic
  • More misery and disaster.
  • Depends on how much issues work we do!
  • Its unthinkable
  • Chaos
  • There will be no doubt that we will collapse economically, politically, environmentally.
  • a decension into the hell of depression (financial and emotional
  • Not hopeful – but depends on spine (so far mostly missing) of Dem leaders in and out of Congress.
  • The same if Obama is re-elected. Ron Paul is against the wars.
  • It would be a replay of the Bush years.
  • Koch Bros = President 45
  • The major corporate parties have become so corrupt and so fascist it’s hard to say – chances all life as we know it would end in a nuclear holocaust is greater under the Republicans.
  • Down the tubes !
  • 99.75
  • Tragedy; Economic collapse; Retreat on Social Progress & Equality
  • Democratic legislature and no SCOTUS choice OK. Otherwise maybe endgame.
  • another country would take over america. maybe korea, perhaps china maybe india or suadi arabia
  • God forbid. I don’t know what — except that progressives would have to work even harder.
  • Increased divide between the 1% and the 99%
  • They will make the federal govt smaller and less effective.
  • We’ve been headed down the road to ruin since Reagan. Any Republican in place of Obama would just be a quicker route to that final ruin.
  • Romney, Gingrich, or huntsman are about the same as Obama, the rest are just nuts.
  • We would no have anything resembling true democracy
  • I think the “Occupy” movement would grow exponentially. People are fed up and won’t go back to the status quo any more. I hope this turn of events does not come to pass.
  • It would be worse off than when Bush was president — possible loss of the seperation of Church and State
  • What happened from 2000-2008
  • disaster
  • America is on its way to hell, no matter what. Obama was the last chance.
  • Think Tea Party; Two more Alitos on the court.
  • the world will go down in flames
  • War
  • I’m leaving for Canada. The economy will crash, violence will erupt in the streets as those clowns repay their special interests, education will be notable for its absence and the split between the 1% and the 99% will explode. The rest of the world already thinks the US political system a shambles and this will serve to fulfill their expectations.
  • growth in illness and death from lack of health care; seniors eating cat food, children uneducated while going hungry and those are just a
  • few of the lowlights.
  • Same old same old, more or less.
  • unknown
  • He will overreach, and the people will finally reject the corporate-influenced candidates. America could recover, if they do the right thing, and reverse all the crap Obama has done
  • Think Germany in the early 1930s
  • perhaps the democrats will learn to be progressive
  • Well we could have another war, another Great Recession, and Medicare meltdown.
  • No meaningful difference. Essentially more of the same.
  • Disaster
  • I have no idea but it would be much worse then anything so far, including 8 years of George W. Bush.
  • Four more years of regressive politics and economic decline.
  • Disaster and further right-wing drift
  • Disaster.
  • chaos-further widening of the gap between rich and poor.
  • The end of the republic, as we know it.
  • Since there is little chance of that, I am purely speculating, but my guess if that there would be more uprising since the traditional democratic party supporters like labor unions, and non profits and movement leaders would be willing to get out in the streets instead of protecting the president.
  • The country might get back on the right track, for a CHANGE!
  • We’re collectively screwed
  • Our country would be a lot better
  • policies don’t change with change of parties ; the ruling class controls all
  • The destruction of our freedoms which started with Bush would continue unabated the destruction of the US Constitution. Civil war.
  • Total economic & social collapse-no joke….
  • Recession, maybe depression, another war for oil
  • They will feel they have to out do him in terms of defense, corporate profits over the environment, diminish workers protections, etc hell
  • chaos
  • More chances of environmental deterioration, growing inequality, and war.
  • We would become split into five nations as a result of devestating social and economic dislocation and failure
  • Total assault on civil liberties, worker’s rights, progressive safety net programs will be privitized, women’s healthcare rights will be repealed……. Big Business, Big Money will dominate political power and representation. Free corproate rein and good by to the middle class and working class. Another right winged appointment to the Supreme Court.
  • the Supreme Court would be even more conservative
  • We would get the Republican Party’s form of fascism, Fascism Type “R”, as opposed to the Democratic Party’s form of Fascism, Fascism Type “D.”
  • Same as it is now fascist feudal state
  • regression of law & threats o constitution, loss of rights, depression
  • Obama’s 1st term = Bush’s 3rd term; Obama’s 2nd term = Any Repub. 1st term (except Ron Paul)
  • With the presumptive candidate being Romney I do not think much as they btw serve the very same corporate interests and I believe he will abandon his rightward shift to come much closer to the right of center now occupied by Obama. A republican in the Oval office might get the Democrats in the House and Senate to actually regain what very limited spine they once had show in opposition to Bush
  • more loss to the middle class, expansion of poverty, loss of environmental and health protections
  • More power to the 1% and Chaos
  • I’d move to Canada!
  • We can’t let that happen, and if it does it will be based on lies that cannot be covered up.
  • If I were young and with abilities I would move abroad.
  • more corporate power, fewer freedoms; but congress holds most power now
  • disaster – but that is already happening, just slower
  • Nothing much good would happen. The poor would continue to suffer while the super rich and CEO’s and corporations would get richer
  • The contradictions would be more clear
  • horrible. The the possible choice of a new Supreme Court justice is freightening.
  • disaster
  • holy roller goverment the old crusders
  • It will go on much as it has under the current clown show
  • How much worse can it get?
  • It will continue down the same road.
  • Worsen, slightly. There is no fundamental difference in parties, except who should be in control of my uterus…which state religion, etc Set back 40 years
  • depends on who it is and which party controls the House and Senate
  • A replay of the disastrous Bush years.
  • Speed up of US decline
  • Republicans have become the current traitors to our country
  • I might take decades to dig out of the set backs
  • Serivces for the poor would shrivel.. we would be more wars
  • mitt rommeny is more likely to get single payer healthcare
  • Romney, the chameleon, will turn into another George H.W. Bush. We’ll muddle through, but many will suffer. disaster
  • pretty much the same as if Obama is elected
  • Stronger plutocracy with greater collapse of the middle class economy.
  • It would be horrible, and some specific bad things would happen… but frankly, I’m not convinced that core things like income inequality would REALLY change much, given how little Obama has delivered in this area. catastrophe
  • It is too grim to contemplate
  • I think a ron paul presidency I could live with
  • More war on terrorism, more war on women, more “blame the poor,” more reversals on environmental protections,
  • No difference as present.
  • Disaster
  • Too fearful to contemplate.
  • Not much–more of the same, but worse ie more poor people
  • Too horrible to even contemplate, but most likely further erosion of services for the poor, elderly, and children, further erosion of public education, further erosion of the environment, and more climate change, more animals endangered, more right wing idealogues on the courts, etc.
  • It would be a disaster.
  • End social security and Medicare, collapse of what is left of the economic system and growth of religious fundamentalism
  • Disaster for the middle class.
  • We would sink deeper into despair economically, socially, and emotionally as a nation.
  • Armed revolution with suicide belts!
  • our nation would be torn apart at the seams and folks like my wife and me would leave the country.
  • biggest disaster in history..mockery from every other country
  • We will survive with Romney as President. The world will go on and the country will at least have someone that knows a little about business and a balance sheet.
  • Nothing dramatic, but there would be a continued downward slide,
  • A right-wing Supreme Court, neutering/repeal of the health care law, trigger-happy foreign policy, war with Iran, no protections for consumers, unregulated financial practices leading to another economic crisis, unfairly low tax rates on billionaires, no progress against global warming
  • To be honest, I don’t think it would be much different. Corporations run our country.
  • Actually it might slow down the stripping of our rights, because people tend to fight back more if its a republican then if its a democrat.
  • If Obama wins we loose Social Security and Medicaid
  • America would be lost for decades!
  • it would lead to disastrous consequences for minorities and the poor.
  • Probably no worse, they are all controlled by the machine
  • See the answer above
  • The gap will widen — drastically — between the rich-poor in areas of nutrition, health care, education, income, ad infinitum! cannot be sure
  • I don’t even want to think about it!
  • unknown
  • Gay people will suffer.
  • Muddle through, getting worse all the while
  • The silent majority would finally wake up and have massive protests on Washington DC (which should have happened 10 years ago but the majority was still asleep).
  • Debacle
  • Within a year, we’ll have what most other countries have – millions of Americans in the streets, utterly enraged.
  • DISASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
