Central to the Lefts criticism is the health care issue and Single Payer. While Single Payer is a elegant solution to serious problem , it wouldn't get too far in Congress but probably more importantly in the media. While we have a Democratic majority in Congress and the Senate in a candidate centered political system , that majority is even slimmer than what appears on paper. And as far as the corporate media goes , they're like a supposed friend offering a person who is drunk coffees to sober up that are laced with a shot of whiskey.Does that analogy make sense? The "start from a Single Payer position" sounds good but our media would have clobbered Obama , they are not our friends.
The big shift to a progressive perspective might be the focus on a "mega issue." Issues are legislative details the Right likes to avoid. I have worked fairly closely with OFA and though I think they could dramatically expand their outreach if they adopted some traditional organizing techniques. That said they are much better than nothing, especially in the candidate centered country we live in where Congress people never mobilize their constituents on issues.

This is a great article and points to a real problem with the Left.

Why DO they want Obama to fail??

(because if they aren't careful, they will get exactly what they wish for, via their lack of support for Obama)

I would note, I have seen a lot of trolls on Liberal blogs doing damage to Obama. Don't discount some manipulation is going on.

But the problem is bigger than simply being caused by outside agitators. In general, among this crowd (the anti-Obama progressive crowd) I see a deep distrust of government in general.

I think the Bush years "pushed them over the edge" as far as trusting government, and now they don't trust it (or President Obama), at all.

PS ... The "incompletes" Dr. Cole assigned Obama mostly involve the Israeli-Palestinian situation.

Everything you write is absolutely true, and not just on domestic agenda items.

Just this morning, Juan Cole graded Pres. Obama on foreign affairs in an article at Salon, saying that while there are a few incompletes on his report card, overall the president earned A's and B's on everything from getting out of Iraq to taking time to rethink Afghanistan to engaging Iran to pressuring Pakistan into taking on the Taliban in Swot and South Wuzeristan (as well as nudging the military more firmly under civilian control), to tying aid to both Pakistan and Afghanistan to better governance.

Sounds like an awful lot is getting done - and we're only into the 10th month of the administration.
