The United States had a presence in Benghazi, the second largest city in Libya. On September 11, 2012, the U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi was attacked by 125-150 gunmen. Three were killed and several were injured. Secretary of State, at the time, Hillary Clinton, had warned congress that a reduction in security funding increased risk.
