Walter Brasch: While 11,000 athletes from 205 countries continue to excel at the Olympics in London, 75 pretend hunters and faux sportsmen are at the Wing Pointe club near Hamburg, Pennsylvania, this weekend where they are shooting more than 10 times the number of pigeons killed at the 1900 Olympics.

Serious Tax Problems

Tom Degan: The debt that the United States has incurred in the last ten years is now at a level where it’s probably insurmountable. The only solution (and that’s assuming there is a viable solution) will involve taxes – decades of serious taxation.

Hey! Where’s Dick?

Tom Degan: Dick Cheney’s days as a “beloved elder statesman” are seriously numbered. Very soon it will become apparent to damned near everybody (Tea Partiers excluded of course) what a hideous, dreadful mistake it was to send these people to Washington ten years ago. Take that to the bank.

boy scouts

Ron Wolff: I don’t quarrel with the Boy Scouts’ right to determine its own membership qualifications, although I think what they’ve done is short-sighted in the least and actually downright bigoted. (Other organizations serving young people — the Girl Scouts, Campfire, Boys and Girls Clubs, and probably a host of others — have seen the light.) What I don’t understand is the desire to celebrate and applaud discrimination, unless of course you approve of those views yourself.

Chris Matthews Nails It

obama sucks

Tom Degan: Let’s face some serious facts here, boys and girls: The right wing in this country has always been (since the days of the Confederacy and before) a tad crazy — not to mention dumber than doggy doo doo. What is happening to them now is beyond anything in their long and entertainingly weird history. In effect they’ve totally lost it.

Interview Sarah? “Not In The Campaign’s Interest”

OK, so like every other major, minor, would-be and never was journalist in the world, I want to interview Sarah Palin. Yet when I called McCain’s campaign headquarters in McLean, Virginia, this morning I was told, “She’ll be made available for interviews when it is in the best interests of the campaign.”
