Clifford “Felonious Ax? Tasner: Voters are not becoming better informed and candidates get away with saying almost anything that pops into their heads. It was especially bad this year when Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan simply lied at every chance.

Ann Robertson and Bill Leumer: Jerry Brown to resort to his terror tactic, intended to strike fear in the hearts of the public. He has told the people of California that if they do not support this new compromise tax proposal, then automatic trigger cuts will go into effect that will brutally slash the budget of public education on all levels.

Lillian Taiz: Ex officio members of the CSU Board of Trustees—the governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of education, and Assembly speaker—now need to send their own designees to Trustees meetings to participate in discussions and cast votes on behalf of the constitutional state leaders and the legislature.
Craig Williams: Libya actually has a special relationship to Californians and played an important role in our growth spurt during the 60’s and 70’s.

Unai Montes-Irueste: Unless these drafts are redrawn, California Latinos will be robbed of the Congressional and Legislative representation we deserve—despite the fact that these draft maps were drawn using the very same Census data that attributes 90% of California’s population growth between 2000 and 2010 to Latino youth and migrants.
Joseph Palermo: Jerry’s triangulating. He’s aligning himself with the Republican minority in forging a path forward out of California’s deep crisis.
Tracy Emblem: California taxpayers should carefully consider the cost-benefit analysis, because when we cut public funding for these institutions, we cut our state’s economic advantage and future prosperity.
Kamala Harris California Attorney General On behalf of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, I congratulate Attorney General-Elect Kamala Harris for her victory. As of today, she leads Republican Steve Cooley by 51,585 votes statewide and she has widened her lead in Los Angeles County significantly by 312,925 votes. Clearly, Los Angeles County voters made [...]
Eric Garcetti: Kamala ended the night/early morning with a 40,382 vote lead statewide, with 96.2% of the precincts statewide reporting. This is only a 0.6% margin, but she is ahead. The outstanding precincts are located in four counties: San Bernadino, Riverside, Kings, and Yolo. These counties are still counting.

Eric Bauman of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party sent this video to remind us all that Election Day is around the corner and California has a clear choice to make. Says Bauman, “While Meg Whitman, Carly Fiorina and their Republican cronies hope to protect right-wing conservative special interests and their “friends” on Wall Street, Democrats are [...]

Luis Lopez and Dolores Huerta: Few groups in California have felt the sting of contradiction more sharply than Latinos and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. The statewide election on November 2 is a perfect chance for both populations to send a message that picking on us will be punished.

Dick Price: But what if all hundred people at my workplace followed suit? That’s 50,000 plastic bags per year that wouldn’t be fouling the environment. Or the 800 members of my church? Another 400,000 bags not killing wildlife. All 10 million LA County residents? Five billion bags. All Californians? That’s 19 billion bags—and now e’re waist deep in the Big Plastic.
Ramona Ripston: The California Supreme Court ‘sentenced’ our state’s taxpayers to an additional debt of $180,000 more per year last week.
Paul Hogarth: As Gavin Newsom runs for Lieutenant Governor, he would be wise to make the passage of Proposition 25 a central part of his campaign – which ends the “two-thirds rule” for passing a budget. Because there is no better poster child for how Sacramento’s dysfunction has thrown the state off a cliff than Abel Maldonado – Newsom’s Republican opponent.

Victoria Defrancesco Soto: The issue trifecta of Benghazi, the IRS audits, and the AP investigations has resuscitated the near moribund Tea Party. While each of these issues deals with different agencies and actors they share the common denominator of heightening distrust in the government.

RJ Eskow: Dimon isn’t the cause of our economic problems. He’s merely a symptom. He’s no more responsible for the wreckage he leaves behind than a surfer is responsible for the undertow of the wave he’s riding. Dimon may lack moral sensitivity, but then, that’s the character that got him where he is today.
