Seth Hoy: While the President acknowledged that border security is part of that conversation, he also acknowledged that “changing the politics” of how Congress and his administration engage the public on immigration is equally important—as is “doing right” by the many DREAM students who deserve a fair shot at the American dream.
Seth Hoy: For both parties, courting the Latino vote must not only involve reigning in the fringe and turning down the fear-mongering, but some honest to God passes at immigration reform.
While this bill provides a strong starting point for Congress to honestly debate meaningful immigration reforms, many wonder whether obstructionists in Congress will continue to use immigration as a political piñata in the name of election politics or put partisanship aside and fix our broken immigration system.
Anthony Samad: Colin Powell called on his party to break out of its anti-immigration bag and provide some policy solutions to a difference kind of crisis in our country. But he didn’t know exactly what those solutions would be.
Andrea Nill: The FBI crime statistics show that as undocumented immigration has increased, crime in Arizona and other border states has gone down. Data from the Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) additionally shows that the violent crime rate in Arizona has been declining since 2006 and in 2008 and is at the lowest level since 1973.
Seth Hoy: Notwithstanding the fact that many GOP strategists and other leaders are arguing against using immigration as a wedge issue, politicians eager for votes gravitate toward each new anti-immigrant message like moths to a flame.

Dana Lone Hill: It seems as if the ongoing battle within the Oglala Lakota Sioux tribe over alcohol will still continue, but the biggest obstacle will be the battle will be with each other. The days of working together as a tribe seems to be a thing of the past…when there was no alcohol.
