Glenn Beck weighs in on the congressional race in California against Marcy Winograd and Jane Harman
Winograd endorses the federal Fair Elections Now Act, as well as the California Fair Elections Act. Both efforts would enable candidates to run for office without relying on large contributions from corporations and big money bundlers.
This week’s articles in the LA Progressive.
Linda Milazzo: At the behest of his congressional ally, Jane Harman (CA-36), Democratic Congressman Henry Waxman (CA-30) has launched a mean-spirited ideological assault on Harman’s Democratic primary challenger, Marcy Winograd, that is garnering disfavor for Waxman and Harman amongst Democratic voters.
On January 3, 2010 congressional candidate Marcy Winograd wrote an open letter to Congressman Henry Waxman addressing his praise for Blue Dog Democrat Jane Harman for her position on energy and the environment, never acknowledging that Harman’s support of perpetual war leaves the worst carbon foot print of all – a scorched earth.
It behooves everyone in Congress to demand that big banks, the overnight recipients of billion-dollar bail-outs, renegotiate loans in bankruptcy court. After all, we must remember these banks, the ones we bailed out, caused the financial meltdown with predatory sub-prime lending.
Why We Support Marcy Winograd. First, haven’t we all had our fill of tepid Democrats? Blue Dogs, Red State moderates, careerists, call them what you will; we don’t need any more Democrats in Congress who pose as up-from-the-grassroots voices for the common man, only to climb right in bed with the vested interests the moment [...]

Blue Dogs, Red State moderates, careerists, call them what you will; we don’t need any more Democrats in Congress who pose as up-from-the-grassroots voices for the common man, only to climb right in bed with the vested interests the moment they get to Washington.
On earth, we have work to do — and we need to put America back to work. We need a Green New Deal that invests in both public and private works projects; installing a million solar panels on roof tops; developing wind farms; building rapid transit; repairing our aging infrastructure – ports, levees, bridges.
Drinking Motivational KoolAid: How It All Works Financially. Even the soberest fiscal conservatives cannot avoid the power of this pitch and will jump out of his or her seat with wallet wide open! You may get in for $19, but more than half of you will spend many hundreds if indeed not thousands more. – [...]

My name is Marcy Winograd and WE are running for Congress. Thank you, all, for joining me today for the historic kick-off of the Winograd for Congress 2010 campaign to unseat Jane Harman in the 36th congressional district. We stand here today just miles from the neighborhoods of West LA and Mar Vista, Playa Vista, [...]

If you’ve glanced at the LA Progressive recently, you know that our weekend last week was consumed with the media workshop at Occidental College, which this magazine sponsored and which Sharon and I helped organize. We learned a bit, met some interesting folks, and had a blast. Called “Local Media for Social Change,” the day-long [...]
Every Friday the LA Progressive features a comment that was particularly noteworthy. This week we are featuring a comment submitted by Bob in response to a press release distributed by Marcy Winograd. Bob writes: I enjoy your email newsletters, but this is one of those “with all due respect” comments: Not all of us Jews [...]
LA Jews for Peace (LAJP), joining a chorus of critics, calls for a meeting with Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa and city council members Wendy Greuel, Janice Hahn, Jack Weiss and Dennis Zine to express disappointment in their public support of Israel’s relentless bombing and blockade of Gaza. Following a similar request from the Muslim Public [...]
Monday evening, in the plush environs of Los Angeles’ American Jewish University, a dedicated group of pro-peace, Pro-Constitution patriots “booked” Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. No, I don’t mean “booked” as in charged her with a crime and jailed her. In this scenario, “booked” is more akin to “punked” – in which case we [...]
When anti-war activists on the California Democratic Party Executive Board gather near San Francisco this weekend their swing block votes, representing roughly a third of the board, could elect strong progressives to the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Up for grabs are 19 seats for the California Delegation in 2012, when the next Presidential nominee will [...]
During the Memorial Day weekend, hundreds of anti-war activists gathered at Santa Monica’s Arlington West, a cemetary in the sand to honor the fallen soldiers of the US war and occupation of Iraq. Every Sunday, volunteers with Veterans for Peace and Arlington West rise before dawn to spend hours blanketing the beach with crosses that [...]
Last Friday morning, I called Congressman Murtha’s office to communicate my outrage that Murtha, Pelosi, Hoyer and the rest of the House leadership planned to push through another $170-billion dollar Iraq War supplemental, some $70 billion more than Bush requested — all with no timelines or benchmarks or any semblance of accountability or restraint. Murtha’s [...]
One hundred and ten Progressive Democrats of America members and their guests filled the center section of the Nuart Theater in Los Angeles for the premiere of Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro’s new film, “Body of War.” It was a sold-out house and a very special evening for everyone lucky enough to have gotten their [...]
Congratulations to the winners at this afternoon’s Obama caucus for CD 30, Robert Vanderet, Victoria von Szeliski, and Shayne Adamski. This trio of very organized campaign volunteers ran as a team, and took all three delegate seats. With heartwarming support from progressive Democrats and the Santa Monica Democratic Club, I came in third for the [...]
By dusk on Wednesday, the California Obama campaign had purged almost all progressive activists from its delegate candidate lists. Names of candidates, people who had filed to run to represent Obama at the August Democratic Party National Convention, disappeared, not one by one, but hundreds at a time, from the Party web site listing the [...]
