Marcy Winograd announced she is kicking off a campaign to fill Jane Harman’s vacated 36th CD seat. The kick off starts Saturday, Feb. 26, 10 am in front of Fox Drug of Torrance (Old Town), 1327 El Prado, Torrance, 90501. Last June, Marcy Winograd, a teacher at Crenshaw High School, ran against the incumbent Jane Harman and received 41% of the vote.
Marcy Winograd: When I heard the news that Jane Harman was resigning, I thought, ‘Now we finally have an opportunity to send a progressive to Congress, someone who will work to create jobs in the new economy, to free the 36th District from its perpetual war footing.’

Jane Harman (CA/36), was too close to call – certainly not reflective of a frenzied convention tabulation Party Chair John Burton delivered with the qualifier, “No one was bribed.”
Marcy Winograd: With more conclusive research will come louder and more urgent demands for environmental clean up at Super Fund sites near Torrance, stricter regulation and federal oversight of oil company pollution in Wilmington, and the political will to ensure our port reduces its diesel exhaust from idling trucks in San Pedro.
Linda Milazzo: Winograd’s grassroots momentum so concerned her opponent that Harman retaliated with an ideological assault of minor relevance to most residents in her district. Rather than going toe to toe with Winograd on constituent-specific matters, Harman chose Israel as her main campaign strategy. Though Harman and Winograd are both Jewish Americans, they hold radically different views on Israel.
