I've tried to examine why the peace prize irked me so much - as a liberal, progressive, practicing Buddhist. I guess it just felt like yet another example of how Obama is made out to be a liberal, when in fact he has not demonstrated liberal politics and policy. He is treated like a liberal for sure by the right. And their crazy demonizations of him force most liberals to want to defend him. But the truth of the matter is Obama hasn't yet acted like a liberal, and he is escalating the US occupation of Afghanistan.

Bottom line - how can you be considered an advocate for peace when you are commander and chief of the WORLD'S largest military?

I don't perceive hostility so much as bewilderment.

Still happy he got it, as an American I want to see my president honored.

I have been appalled at much of the "liberal" response to this award (and the media's).

How have some liberals become so hostile to Obama?

Obama's courage and fortitude as he faces the worst disaster our country has faced (its bankrupting by Wall Street, the dismantling of the Federal Government by the radical right, the out-of-control military estabishment), is more than enough reason for this award, and I am so glad the Norwegians recognized this.

Dear Professor Palermo,
A few things. The Freedom Fries movement , believe it or not, was also supported by some Democrats. It wasn't a Republican only event. Although I am a critic of the Bush Administration, knowing what I now know ( I am sure that the Democrats who voted for his war feel the same) I would support the troops and do the Freedom Fries gesture again.
You may be interested in my tweet that I sent about President Obama and the Nobel Peace Prize and what I think of it.(although forever in your supposedly compassionate liberal mind I am a dirty felon)
My tweet--Shouldn't we be happy as a Country to have our President honored ? Isn't it good for the U.S. I believe the answer is yes-Congrats!12:07 PM Oct 9th from web
In conclusion, Dear Assistant Professor/author- Professor of History may I add--If you get current on your history, you may make a full Professor some day-- I am not, as you say, "fittingly in prison" I have been out since February of 2008--have a talk radio show Monday through Friday http://www.wvly.net 1-3 pm . I also work for Ellen Ratner, a wonderful true liberal,( Talk Radio News Service)- Maybe I will talk about you on my show --no,second thought, I only comment on full professors who know what they are talking about. Freedom is pretty cool, I am enjoying it!!
Toujours,
Bob Ney
Fittingly in America
