Fifth Annual Youth Media Education and Leadership Conference

The fifth annual Youth Media Education and Leadership Conference will be sponsored by the Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission and the Gardena Healthy Start Collaborative on May 31st at California State Dominguez Hills’ Loker Student Union.  Students from Gardena, Washington Prep and King-Drew Medical Magnet High Schools and Bret Harte Middle School will participate.

youth media panelThe conference will feature youth workshops on media literacy and social justice advocacy.  Topics will include improving media representations of young women and men of color; addressing violence against women of color in school communities; HIV/AIDS education and prevention; LGBT youth homelessness and homophobia; and undocumented youth advocacy and college preparation.

*Featuring a special performance of “Positive Secrets” by the Washington Prep Theatre Group*
