Julia Figueira-McDonough has devoted her legal career to defending the rights of low-wage workers. Most recently, Figueira-McDonough served as senior counsel to the California Labor Commissioner, where she led the Criminal Investigation Unit and advised strategic enforcement, community partnership, and impact litigation initiatives.
Previously, Figueira-McDonough was a deputy Los Angeles City attorney, where she spearheaded civil and criminal prosecutions against predatory employers in the garment, day labor, construction, and car wash industries. She began her career as a Skadden Fellow and for over a decade represented workers in complex wage and hour and discrimination actions at nonprofit legal services organizations. Figueira-McDonough has also traveled to Brazil as a visiting attorney to investigate and document human rights abuses.
Figueira-McDonough earned a BA from the University of Michigan and a JD from UCLA School of Law.
