Nyabingi Kuti: Our resolution played a major role in the Governor’s decision to halt construction on the condemned inmate Taj Mahal at San Quentin, a few days before the convention. All supporters of the resolution can take credit for this savings of half a billion dollars. I think he will come around sooner, rather than later, for fiscal and moral reasons.
Nyabingi Kuti: Governor Brown was against the death penalty as a two-term Governor years ago. Why didn’t he commute death sentences when he first entered office in 2010? Why do we have to lobby him to do this, at a time when it is fiscally prudent?
Nyabingi Kuti: The growing LA progressive movement began lobbying Marcy Winograd to jump in. Winograd, a teacher at Crenshaw High, has twice caused Harman concern with her strong challenges to the seat.
