Rasheed Shabazz

Rasheed Shabazz's research interests include housing and community development, urban history, the black press and the politics of higher education.

He is a McNair Scholar, a Vévé Clark Scholar and received a Gilman Scholarship to study in Tanzania. He double majored at UC Berkeley in African American Studies and political science, and minored in City and Regional Planning. He was recently a visiting scholar at Berkeley, teaching a journalism course on the history of the black press in U.S.

Shabazz is a recipient of the Judith Lee Stronach Baccalaureate Prize, the inaugural AP-Google Journalism and Technology Fellowship and the Bay Area Black Journalism Association’s Chauncey W. Bailey Scholarship in 2010.

He is currently online editor for Onyx Express, a UC Berkeley-based student publication, and editor-in-chief of The ABC Movement, a UC-wide media collective in partnership with the Afrikan Black Coalition.
