Let’s Take Control of California’s Budget — June 22nd

california's budgetAre you tired of watching California’s money disappear?

Tired of fighting about continual cuts to education and social services?

Tired of watching California’ infrastructure spiral downward in disrepair?

We must demand a budget that reflects the true priorities of our citizens. We must demand that the legislators pursue collecting revenue in an equitable and effective manner. We must demand that equal opportunity become the norm. Together, we can change the way politicians collect taxes and spend money so that it reflects our priorities.

On June 22, 2013, join the ACLU of Southern California’s Economic Justice Committee for a day of organizing and action to join in the fight to take back our budget and our state.

  • How do we stop the annual budget showdown that results in cuts to essential services each and every year?
  • How do we make sure that every revenue source is tapped equitably so that everyone pays their fair share?
  • How do we ensure that everyone’s voice is heard, not just those with the money to access legislators and buy time on television?
  • How did we get here and how do we make sure that it doesn’t happen again?

Speakers and organizers include:

  • Lenny Goldberg – Executive Director of the California Tax Reform Association, a non-profit dedicated to advocating for the fair collection of taxes to support a healthy economy.
  • Joe Mathews – Center for Social Cohesion, author of “California Crack-Up” (California Calls)
  • Hector Villagra – Executive Director, ACLU of Southern California

Afternoon sessions will explore how to influence policymakers and officeholders.

This event is free to the public and includes refreshments!
