“The wise know their weakness too well to assume infallibility; and he who knows most, knows best how little he knows.” Thomas Jefferson
“People with a sense of humor do not take themselves too seriously. They are able to ‘stand off’ from themselves, see themselves in perspective, and recognize the ludicrous and absurd aspects of their pretensions.” Reinhold Niebuhr
The Humble Mr. Trump in His Own Words
“I do have actually much more humility than a lot of people would think,” said the humble Mr. Trump.
“I’m a very nice person who gets along very well with people. I’m very loyal, to a fault.”
“I get along with everybody . . . . Everybody loves me.”
“It’s very hard for them [some women] to attack me on looks, because I’m so good looking.”
“I’m very smart. My life has proven that I’m smart. I mean, I’ve had a life of success and I’ve had a life of victory. You know, I’ve had a lot of wins in my life, and I know where I’m coming from, and I know where I’ve been, and I know how to get the country to where people really want to see it.”
“I’m a deal guy. I’ve been winning all of my life. . . . My whole life is about winning. I always win. I win at golf. I’m a club champion many times at different clubs. I win at golf. I can sink the three-footer on the 18th hole when others can’t. My whole life is about winning. I don’t lose often. I almost never lose.”
But Mr. Trump are you presidential enough?
“I could be more Presidential than anybody. I can be more Presidential, if I want to be, I can be more Presidential than anybody . . . . more Presidential than anybody other than the great Abe Lincoln.”
Polls show, Mr. Trump, that women and minorities like Hispanics, and Afro-Americans have a very unfavorable view of you. And many U. S. Muslims are enraged about your call to ban all Muslim immigrants to the USA. Would you be able to get along with such groups?
“I cherish women. I want to help women. I’m going to be able to do things for women that no other candidate would be able to do.”
“We’re going to have great relationships with the Hispanics. . . . [They] have been so incredible to me. They want jobs. Everybody wants jobs. The African Americans want jobs. If you look at what’s going on, they want jobs.”
“I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created. I tell you that. I’ll bring back our jobs from China, from Mexico, from Japan, from so many places. I’ll bring back our jobs, and I’ll bring back our money.”
“I have a great relationship with the blacks. I’ve always had a great relationship with the blacks.”
“I have great respect and love—I have people that I have tremendous relationships with, they’re Muslim. and . . . they agree with me 100 percent.”
“Am I a bigot? “Probably the least of anybody you’ve ever met. . . . I’m a smart person. I know how to run things. I know how to make America great again.”
How about some of our pressing problems, Mr. Trump, like illegal immigration and our collapsing infrastructure, how would you deal with them?
“I would build a great wall, and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me, and I’ll build them very inexpensively, I will build a great, great wall on our southern border. And I will have Mexico pay for that wall.”
“Regarding rebuilding our infrastructure, “Nobody can do that like me. Believe me. It will be done on time, on budget, way below cost, way below what anyone ever thought. I look at the roads being built all over the country, and I say I can build those things for one-third.”
How, Mr. Trump, do you think you would get along with foreign leaders?
“Well, Soviet leader Putin “called me a genius. He said Trump’s a genius.” [Actually, he didn’t].
“Right now “we don’t get along with China. We don’t get along with the heads of Mexico. We don’t get along with anybody, and yet, at the same time, they rip us left and right. . . . We get along with nobody. I will get along—I think—with Putin, and I will get along with others [world leaders], and we will have a much more . . . stable world.”
On foreign policy, Mr. Trump, who do you talk to, who would advise you?
“I’m speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain and I’ve said a lot of things. I know what I’m doing and I listen to a lot of people, I talk to a lot of people and at the appropriate time I’ll tell you who the people are. But my primary consultant is myself and I have a good instinct for this stuff.”
