Great news! The California Assembly just passed the amended version of SB 27 on an overwhelming vote of 58-12! The vote in the Senate could be as early as Thursday. If it passes, it goes straight to the Governor and will go into effect July 1st.

Dark Money Bill

SB 27 is the bill forcing Dark Money non-profits to reveal their secret funders when they try to buy elections. This is the bill that will stop the billionaires and others who hide hundreds of millions in political spending from getting away with it in California.

The hue and cry of Californians to pass SB 27 has been amazing — with more than 36,000 signing petitions demanding the legislature pass it.. Some of you have even signed the petition in more than one place and so may be getting multiple alerts about it (if so, sorry about that!).

The Assembly got the message. Now it's time to give the Senate the same message.

Email your Senator telling them to vote for the amended version of SB 27 now!

Last month, several Republican Senators refused to vote "Yes", saying it wasn't fair to "change the rules in the middle of the game". They said otherwise they'd vote for it.

Now they'll have their chance. The amended SB 27 addresses Republicans' concern by making it apply to only people who donate after the law goes into effect July 1st. This commonsense change still ensures that after July 1st and forever after, secret donors to non-profits that spend significant amounts on California elections must be reported.

We need make sure that all Senators hear loud and clear from their constituents that they need to vote "Yes" now. Our petition tool automatically sends your Senator an individual email from you with your message. Because personal notes are extra powerful, if you add one we'll send it to Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, also.

Please sign now to send an email to your Senator even if you signed the petition before.
