On Fox News on May 10, 2015, Jeb Bush was asked whether he would have authorized the invasion of Iraq in 2003 had he been President. He answered: “I would have, and so would have Hillary Clinton, just to remind everybody,” the former Florida governor told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly Saturday after delivering the commencement address at Liberty University in Virginia. “And so would almost everybody that was confronted with the intelligence they got.”

Jeb Bush Lies

Of course, this is a bald-faced lie. Because the members of Congress got the same intelligence as did George W. Bush, Hillary Clinton, and (possibly) Jeb Bush. But 133 members of Congress voted against the invasion – despite the intelligence they received. Who were those people?

Most prominent among those who doubted the intelligence handed to them was Ted Kennedy. But many other senators and representatives did as well, including Patrick Leahy, Lincoln Chaffee (who says he is considering running for President today), Carl Levin, Dick Durbin, and many others. And one outstanding representative now running for President; Bernie Sanders.

Why should Jeb Bush say something like what he did? Because he (like Hillary) is stuck with the past. He cannot run for President against George Bush, so he has to accept what he did – and he has to make sure that Hillary Clinton is tagged with the same brush.

But he cannot tag Bernie Sanders, who had the same intelligence as George and Hillary did. Nor can he tag Ted Kennedy, Carl Levin, Patrick Leahy, and all those other of the 133 members of Congress who had the courage and intelligence to vote against a war that made little sense at the time and makes no sense at all now.

But Jeb has told us what he is: a bald-faced liar, ready to say anything that will help him get elected. And his words will come back to haunt him.
