I am a strong supporter of Bernie Sanders. I really appreciated it when Tulsi Gabbard resigned from the DNC because of what they were doing to him. To me, her decision was a sign that she was a person with integrity. And, frankly, she has never let me down since. I know that some people think that she is anti-homosexual, and others criticize her because she went to speak privately with Assad.
“Tulsi Gabbard is a candidate for the HI-02 House seat vacated by Congresswoman Hirono to run for Senate. She has previously served in the military, in the Honolulu City Council, and in the Hawaii House of Representatives--her campaign materials seem to emphasize her military service. But behind this impressive political C.V.--like so many--is the product of a political dynasty. Tulsi is the daughter of Mike Gabbard, a Hawaii state Senator, former Republican, and anti-gay activist. Certainly, no one should be assumed to share the political views of their parents. But Tulsi Gabbard's political connections to her father go far beyond the family relationship. Despite her recent claims to socially-progressive views, the identities of her staffers and donors make much more sense as the products of a conservative family network than as the products of conventional ideological organizations.”
The DNC’s methodology for revenging itself on her has been one that lacks integrity and seems to fall within the “scam” methods the DNC used against Bernie in 2016.
I usually like things written in Daily Kos, but not this one. I don’t know if what is said about her father is true. He was once Republican and he was and is strongly anti-homosexual. Tulsi used to campaign against gay marriage. She has since apologized for things she said when she was working for an anti-gay group. “Tulsi Gabbard said she has since changed her views and has repeatedly voted in Congress to protect gay rights. She is a member of the House LGBT Equality Caucus, and gay rights group the Human Rights Campaign gave her a score of 100 for her voting record.”
I think of her decision to leave the DNC as very important. She gained nothing by that decision and her decision to back Bernie Sanders. Instead, the DNC has come down on her like a ton of bricks. The DNC’s methodology for revenging itself on her has been one that lacks integrity and seems to fall within the “scam” methods the DNC used against Bernie in 2016.
How many of the Democratic candidates have criticized the DNC for its acts against her? So far as I can tell, no one has – not even Bernie, and I don’t understand that, since the DNC is likely to pull a similar stunt on him. At this point, Tulsi will not be in the September debate, but there is every chance that she will be in the October debate. Still, the way the DNC acted is inappropriate in the extreme.
As journalist Michael Tracey wrote for RealClearPolitics, “Tulsi Gabbard is on the verge of being excluded from the next Democratic presidential debate on the basis of criteria that appear increasingly absurd.” If the DNC wants to avoid more allegations of bias, it should step in and make sure Gabbard is granted the debate stage place she clearly deserves.”
Meanwhile, even though Tulsi is being denied a spot on the September debate stage, she is not planning on dropping out of the race. Indeed, she has every chance of qualifying for the October debates, since the requirements are the same as the ones for September.
