Tip 1: Grassroots Movement to give American Homeowners a bailout
There is a grassroots and on-line movement to get Congress to give American homeowners the same kind of bailout they are giving Wall Street. Many people, including Whoopi Goldberg, Bill Clinton and others are asking for banks to write down subprime mortgages given during the sub-prime craze. The $700 billion dollars bailout proposal will be footed by the American taxpayer, who will not receive a single cent.
Instead of chastising homeowners for taking the loans (the personal responsibility argument), Congress should be chastising the ones making the loans (the saving economy argument). Instead they are rewarding greed and deregulation exploitation. Call your Congressperson and demand mortage relief for every home that has been foreclosed upon, in foreclosure or will adjust in the future, by a subprime loan. This would be the first major taxpayer relief act since the stock market crash of 1929. It can happen if we make it.
Tip 2: When in Desperation, hire a Republican Strategist
“If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with,” is the tune Bernard Parks is apparently singing now that he has hired Republicans strategists to run his doomed Supervisorial campaign. Not being able to find no “love” in his own party and little in his own community, Parks is finding plenty love in the other man’s party. Parks has been long accused of being a Republican, which he’s even stopped denying. Republicans make you come out of the closet if they put resources behind you. I always say if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, well? Just call him Bernie Duck. Birds of a feather are flocking together. He didn’t just retain a hired gun, he retained Repubican “Top Gun” Steve Kinney, whose firm has gotten more Republicans elected than anyone in the state. This only means one thing. No, not that Parks is getting ready to become the Republicans new lacky on the Board of Supervisors (Parks will suggest he’s not). It means the next five weeks will be all negative campaigning. Republican strategists are one trick ponies, they only know one beat-negative. Mark Ridley-Thomas will come out of this unbowed, but he’d better buy a plastic suit. He’s definitely going to be muddied and bloodied. That’s what desparation does to you.
Last Tip: Goodbye to a Dear Friend
One of my best and oldest friends, Floyd Frazier, passed on Sunday in Orlando, Florida. Floyd was my friend when I thought I had no friends. This one is hard to bear, but God is the best knower. His service will be next week in L.A. Keep posted for details. God bless his soul, and may Peace be upon to him.
