In a letter released publicly by Saban, Clinton expressed serious concern over comparisons between Israel and “South African apartheid.” She also pledged to work across the aisle to “oppose any effort to delegitimize Israel, including at the United Nations or through the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Movement.”
During the battle over Palestinian rights at last month’s Democratic National Convention, Clintonites on the platform committee blocked any reference to illegal Israeli settlements or to the ongoing siege against Gaza.
Clinton’s anti-BDS witch-hunt hits home in California, where the Israel lobby is pushing a bill (AB 2844) to silence supporters of Palestinian human rights.
In response, SoCal residents of conscience — including African Americans, Latinos, Asians, whites, Muslims, Christians and Jews — support the recently-released Movement for Black Lives #Vision4BlackLives platform that rejects the false conflation of anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism, and endorses BDS.
“It was immoral for the U.S. to support apartheid South Africa decades ago; it is immoral for the U.S. to support apartheid Israel today,” said Nana Gyamfi, human rights attorney; Justice Warriors for Black Lives, a scheduled speaker at the rally. “Zionism is genocide against the Palestinian people.”
“The same U.S. government that practices racist state violence at home gives Israel $3.1 billion in weapons each year to kill Palestinians,” said a protest organizer, Karen Pomer of
Jews for Palestinian Right of Return “and we will not be silent about either of these systems of injustice.”
In the battle for the presence of Palestine in the Democratic Party platform, Clintonites on the platform committee last month voted down any reference to settlements and occupation and the misery of Gaza in the draft document.
