Tune in Monday, March 2nd, at 3 p.m. PST for the next installment of “LA Progressive LIVE!” You’ll find us streaming at www.laprogressive—and we’ll archive the 1-hour show.
LA Progressive Live! hosts Dick and Sharon will join Ellen Snortland, coauthor of "The Safety Godmothers Talk to Teens About Personal Safety from A-Z," to discuss women's issues. In particular, Ellen will talk about how parents can keep their daughters safe from violence, both physical and verbal, and how women of all ages can learn physical self-defense.
We'll also talk about the upcoming ACLU-Sponsored Women's Rights Forum: How Incarcerated Women Lose Their Rights as Caregivers and Care Recipients, which Sharon will moderate on Thursday evening at Occidental College. Joining her will be Esther Lim speaking on the issues of confinement and jail violence and their effect on women prisoners, Melissa Goodman focusing on LGBT and reproductive justice perspectives, and Aura Bogado discussing detention facilities used by immigration facilities, especially private prison networks, and the special issues women detainees face. Esther and Melissa are staff members of the ACLU of Southern California, and Aura writes for The Nation and Colorlines.
LA Progressive Live! is an extension of laprogressive.com an online social justice daily publication that covers issues mainstream media avoids. We are streaming from the studios of LATalkLive.com
