The father and brother of award-winning Australian journalist Julian Assange are on a nationwide tour of the United States calling on the U.S. government to drop its prosecution and finally let Julian come home. John and Gabriel Shipton, Julian Assange's father and brother respectively, began this tour in June. Starting with the city of Miami, FL, the Shiptons doggedly began their 18 city tour across the United States.
The Shiptons made several appearances in California including to a group of supporters in Santa Monica, where, due to Covid, they spoke outdoors to an enthusiastic crowd of hopefuls expressing their support for the release of Assange. The next event in Los Angeles will be livestreamed. Details and a link to the livestream are as follows:
Moderated by Sharon Kyle, Publisher, LA Progressive, this event was organized by the Los Angeles Branch of the Assange Defense, a project of the Courage Foundation.
John and Gabriel Shipton’s #HomeRun4Julian tour began in Miami on June 6. The Shiptons are scheduled to make stops on both coasts and the Midwest before concluding the tour in the nation’s capital.
Assange’s family members will meet with activists, press, and policymakers to raise awareness of the importance of protecting whistleblowers and journalists, and to advocate for the release of Julian Assange, whom the United Nations has declared “arbitrarily detained” since 2010.
