The Republican death wish for the U.S. government almost came to their hoped-for fruition. Kill Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal and replace it with Reagan’s New Steal of privatization and corporate control. It’s not what our founding fathers or our U.S. Constitution had in mind.
“Death and fear’ was the message from the Republicans when the New Deal was implemented in 1933 and the same clarion call still exits today. The OxyContin-addicted Rush, has rushed to declare the near demise of Social Security and Medicare, the two most successful government programs in the history of the world.
President Ronald Reagan made it quite clear in his first inaugural address that “Government is not the solution to our problem; Government is the problem.”And then: “The most terrifying words in the English language are: I’m from the Government and I’m here to help.”
Reagan was Far Right, even as he was wrong. He failed to mention that it’s the Republican led Government that is the problem and it is the Republican politicians that all we Americans should fear the most. The unnecessary Iraq war, Osama bin Laden still out there; the economy, the unstable Stock Market, the Sub-Prime Loan disaster, our ideological Supreme Court, Katrina, deregulation, Rove, W, Darth Dick, corruption, freedom from religion, theft of both the public airwaves, and today’s questionable voting system is proof enough.
Today’s Republicans brought us Americans with religious fervor and zeal, the wish to be privatized, corporatized, lied to, tortured and to love war. We’ve been propagandized and greed driven into today’s Mourning in America. It may take generations to get us out of another fine mess the GOP has gotten us into, with some help from conservative Democrats. America needs to change.
It should be clear to Americans by now that GOP Supply Side, trickle down economics is a fraud and as Bush 41 has suggested is Voodoo Economics, even if he did say “Read my lips, no new taxes.” This mantra of “cutting taxes,” or better phrased, “welfare for the wealthy,” is insane. It’s astounding that the Right Wing media can propagandize almost half of the Americans to consistently vote against their own self interests. It’s time for a change.
What started as benign-sounding Dirty Tricks during the Nixon era, has today turned into bona-fide GOP coups, even after being somewhat exposed to the public attention. Caging, voter and registration suppression is against the law, but the GOP is still doing it big time. The U.S. Justice Department is currently an arm of the Bush administration and their case against the ACORN registration drive is to benefit the Republicans and shut down registering Democrats and independent thinkers. The GOP’s move to “getting out the vote,” means getting Democrats, independents, minorities, middle class, and non-Republicans out of voting.
It appears Sen. Barack Obama will win the presidency, but what’s still at great risk is the Republicans ‘down ballot.’ Since the GOP still controls many of the various state election officials, as well as electronic voting and data machines, they’ll still illegally put some key Republicans into office, in some close races. That way, the Democrats won’t have their 60 Senate seats to be veto proof.
Not many people realize the infamous Diebold Corporation, in 2007, changed their electronic voting and data machines division name to Premier Election Systems. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it? Also, Diebold makes the GEMS data counting systems, used in 37 states, to count our votes. All Diebold’s voting and data machines use proprietary (secret) software that can easily be hacked or is capable of changing the vote count.
The GOP look for polls suggesting a close race between a Republican and a Democrat who is within 5 or 6 points ahead. If it’s that close, the GOP can fix it.Then you might see a slow but sure change by late afternoon for a GOP win. They figure if they can still screw up the Democrats and the country, as they did with Clinton, they will be sure to do so with Obama, to help big oil, defense contractors and large corporations. If that’s the outcome, we’ll still have Mourning in America.
