We hope everyone has had a great summer. Our Occupy Democracy group has been meeting and planning, although at a somewhat more relaxed pace – smile.
One action item many of us have been working on is an exciting event planned for Saturday September 15, from 2 to 5 pm. We are sponsoring a Citizens United Teach-In with guest speaker Congresswoman Judy Chu at Villa Gardens in Pasadena.
The Supreme Court's ruling in Citizens United v. FEC has focused America's attention on the dangerous influence of money in our electoral system. After Congresswoman Chu speaks, a panel will discuss aspects of the decision. Professor of Law Allan Ides will discuss Constitutional implications of Citizens United. California Clean Money President and CEO Trent Lange will discuss public finance of elections with Common Cause organizer John A. Smith.
Co-sponsored by Greater Pasadena Jews for Justice and Press for Democracy.
Villa Gardens – Villa Vista Room
842 East Villa Street, Pasadena, California
Parking located directly west of Villa Gardens in Section C of Lake Avenue Church Lot. Music, refreshments and community tabling after the event.
We hope you will join us for the opportunity to discuss this important issue and for the chance to meet Pasadena’s future Representative!
