Jayda Rasberry, Melina Abdullah, Jasmyne Cannick and Ivette Ale will be on stage discussing Jail Reform at a Bernie Sanders hosted event today.
The LA Progressive applauds the efforts of those who organized and promoted this event. The LA County jail system is the largest in the country, and is arguably the most violent.
Esther Lim who leads the Jails Project of the ACLU of Southern California been on the inside of the LA County Jails serving as a monitor. Some of what she witnessed over the years, in terms of deputy-on-inmate violence, provided the impetus for the ACLU to successfully sue Los Angeles County.
As we head to an election in L.A. County for the next Sheriff, it is important to understand that the Los Angeles County Sheriff is the largest jailer in the world.
This free event will help many to understand the nature of this behemoth -- the Los Angeles County Jail system and to understand why many are calling for reform. The LA Progressive endorses the reform movement and we strongly encourage our readers to do the same.
Join U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors and civil rights activist and Real Justice co-founder Shaun King for a rally to discuss the steps we must take to radically reform our broken justice system.
This event is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required, but an RSVP is strongly encouraged.
