The 2012 LGBT Community Police Academy
Citizen Community Police Academy
Every Thursday night, beginning April 19 thru June 14, 2012.
The nine-week course will be held at LAPD’s Elysian Park Police Academy, by Dodger Stadium, each Thursday night between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Culmination will be on June 14, 2012 at the Elysian Park Police Academy’s Rock Garden from 6 – 8 p.m. Family and friends are welcomed to attend!
Each Community member must meet the following criteria:
- Must be 18 years old or older;
- Must complete and turn in an application by April 6th;
- Must be approved by LAPD’s Personnel and Training Division Commanding Officer.

The nine-week academy is designed to give community members an overview of the Los Angeles Police Department’s policies and procedures. The curriculum and teaching methods are similar to the traditional law enforcement academy. However, the weekly sessions are not designed to certify the participants as a law enforcement officer.
Through the Community Police Academy, enrolled students will be encouraged to build a lasting partnership with the Department, with the ultimate goal of reducing crime and improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
