Of all the moronic things right wingers do when they argue, few are as amusing as when they go around making progressives’ points for them. I mean, I expect people who are wrong about just about everything to say outrageous things with absolutely nothing to back them up except that “everybody knows that”… or that it’s true because anybody that disagrees with them is a libtard snowflake… or to back it up with “evidence” that was fabricated, cherry picked, or simply a non sequitur that does not “prove” what they claim it proves.
I expect that level of misrepresentation. But to go out of your way to present information that proves you’re wrong, while claiming it proves you right and expecting me to just accept that… that is just plain nuts.

Baby Boomers Dissatisfied

Such is the case with the video that’s recently gone viral of a 1968 clip from Dragnet, where Sergeant Friday is lecturing a couple of young punks on how they need to grow up and quit expecting the rest of the world to care about how “dissatisfied” they are with the country, and learn to appreciate all the opportunities they’ve had that most people in the world have not.

Presumably, the point of sharing this now is to suggest that such malcontents are the crybaby snowflakes dissatisfied with fact that their country is being run by those dissatisfied that they didn’t win the Civil War. If so, you’d think they’d want to rely on our ignorance as to what year this was filmed. But it’s not a real smart move to add the caption reminding us that this was 50 years ago, and it is SHOCKING!
If we know what year it was, there’s just one problem with the point people think they're making by continuing to share this video... the pampered, spoiled, narcissistic kids that this was addressed to back in 1968 were BABY BOOMERS. Back then, as teenagers, the members of this generation were the ones who were unique in their delusions about how much they thought the world owed them, and 50 years later... THEY STILL ARE.

These are the people who benefited immensely from the New Deal's socialism, then got really pissed off after it helped make them successful enough to be the ones paying the taxes that would allow others to have the same opportunities that they had handed to them on a silver platter.

And so they voted for Reagan, thus destroying all possibilities that younger generations would have the same opportunities they had.
And so younger generations get to be lectured about how irrational their demands for a free college education are by the people who didn't need one because they could get a union manufacturing job right out of High School that paid enough for them to buy a three-bedroom house before they were 21... and if they did go to college it didn't involve taking out student loans that they'd be paying off for the rest of their lives, as the minimum wage then was higher when adjusted for the cost of living, and WAY higher when adjusted for the cost of tuition...

The generation seen talking in this clip are absolutely right. They paid a top marginal tax rate of 91% after they lived through a Great Depression caused by Trickle Down Economics... and they stormed the beach at Normandy so their children could be free to throw Tea Party tantrums over tax rates less than half of that.

So if THEY still don't think young people today deserve the same opportunities which that 91% rate paid for for their sons and daughters, I'd be glad to listen to their reasoning... from any of them still alive. They've earned my attention.

But I've got very little interest in continuing to hear about it from their aforementioned sons and daughters, now 60-70 years old and expressing their dissatisfaction by parading around in hats saying that America isn't great anymore because it hasn't kissed their asses quite enough these past 70 years.
