watch jared kushner

Dear Mr President,

I see on the internet that the Senate Judiciary Committee is unhappy with your sometime favorite son-in-law Jared “The Prince” Kushner for not being exactly what they would call responsive to their request for documents relating to Wikileaks and an invitation to a quiet chat between you and someone with a putative connection to Putin. The invitation was entitled “Russian backdoor overture and dinner invite”.

Kushner’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, has labeled the committee’s letter “partisan”. Reporter Melanie Schmitz says this is the latest move in a game of cat and mouse played with the Congressional committees and the Special Counsel. All this raises a number of points.

Don’t be under any illusions about Jared’s loyalty to you in the long run. He knows about prison life from when his father was doing federal time

First, if you get another chance to talk privately to Putin in an elevator or maybe just to the Russian ambassador while shooting the breeze in the Oval, you might suggest that their supposedly really deceptive secret agents stop putting such explicit titles on their emails such as “Russia – Clinton – Private and Confidential”. I suggest something like, “Time for traffic problems in Chappaqua”.

Second, Jared is not the cat in this game. That is Special Counsel Robert “Tomcat” Mueller. “Jared” may remind you of “Jerry”.

Third, the letter from the Judiciary Committee was signed by Senator Charles Grassley. You may have heard of him. He is a Republican. From Iowa! As Chair of the Judiciary Committee, he had done everything short of sending a subpoena to Monica Lewinsky to misdirect his committee’s inquiry. So Lowell’s use of the word “partisan” is a little wide of the mark. For Grassley to sound impatient with your closest advisor is a bad sign.

Fourth, don’t be under any illusions about Jared’s loyalty to you in the long run. He knows about prison life from when his father was doing federal time, and, count on it, his dreams feature a 300-pound cell-mate named Raul with tattoos on his face.
