Each week, LA Progressive’s editors pick what they regard as a particularly insightful comment from one of our readers, both to draw attention to one particular reader’s thoughts and to encourage more readers to weigh in with their opinions. This week’s pithy "Feedback Friday" response comes from Jim Thomas who commented on the article by Rebecca Gordon, "Chuck Schumer’s 5 AM Tweet Epitomizes Moral Decline of Democratic Party From Age of Roosevelt."
At this time there are three political forces in this Country which have any real influence on national policy: the Republican Party, Trump (even though he is under the Republican umbrella, he is, in fact, a force unto himself) and the Democratic Party.
None of these forces act for the benefit of the people.
Trump is right when he “says” we should be talking to, and negotiating in good faith with, Russia. The problem with Trump is that what he says means nothing because he is likely to say one thing one minute and another the next. His actions are also frequently at odds with his statements, e.g. saying he would bring the troops which were illegally in Syria home and instead moving them to Iraq.
The chaos and enmity among these forces is not produced by good faith disagreements about how to best serve the people.
The chaos and enmity among these forces is not produced by good faith disagreements about how to best serve the people. None of these forces care about the interests of the people. All three of them act to serve their own interests (and, in the case of the two political parties, the elites who dictate party policies) and the interests of the 1%, who provide the bribe money paid to do their biding.
The Democratic Party created the Russiagate farce in order to divert attention from its political failures and the fraud it committed to install Hillary Clinton as its 2016 candidate. Both parties continue to fan the flames of the new version of the Red Scare in order to justify the continuance of the theft by military budget and divert attention from the outrageous domestic policies, e.g. the ignorance of the facts that our infrastructure is approaching third world standards and the ongoing devastation of everyone other than the wealthy.
So the mass murder by the military has become “normal”, almost no reporting of that fact is made by the corrupt media and the people continue to be looted by the 1% (including by a health care system that is a scandal). And, to borrow a Vonnegut phrase, so it goes.
