Each week, the editor’s of LA Progressive pick what they regard as a particularly insightful comment from one of our readers, both to draw attention to one particular reader’s thoughts and to encourage more readers to weigh in with their opinions. This week’s pithy "Feedback Friday" response comes from Jaime O'Neill, who commented on John Peeler's "Obama: Where Did Audacity of Hope Take Us?"

Obama Audacity

Reader Feedback: Obama's Audacity of Hope?—Jaime O'Neill

It boggles my mind how often I see “progressives” doing this kind of work in ways that largely write little chapters of discontent for the right wing narrative. I saw so many progressives go apeshit over Obama, but when he didn’t take us to the promised land immediately, they immediately started the fault finding, the ways in which this guy who actually had to do battle with all the enemies of progress just wasn’t as good, as progressive, as liberal, or as authentic as they were themselves.

Then they bitched and moaned their way through two terms of his stewardship, seldom giving him a word of praise or support, negating what he accomplished, never forgetting how he failed to behave as they surely would have themselves, had they been in his position.

So easy, so cheap, such empty Monday morning quarterbacking, and so pervasive on the left, especially that most effete corridor that just relishes the exclusivity of their own ranks, and could never really like anyone who was widely popular because, just like their taste in music or style or food, they’re never quite comfortable unless they think they are the hippest minority, and the most doctrinally pure.
