Each week, the editor’s of LA Progressive pick what they regard as a particularly insightful comment from one of our readers, both to draw attention to one particular reader’s thoughts and to encourage more readers to weigh in with their opinions. Trump Supporters Voting

Trump Supporters Voting Their Gut—Peter Laarman:

The media have won this election, but Trump has not. They got more advertising revenue, a close and interesting election (partly by harping on the ‘do you trust Hillary?” meme) and people wanting to visit often to learn the latest in The New York/New Jersey bombing and future shootings.

Compare this election to the 1964 election (I had just been drafted, I remember it well). Many people distrusted LBJ who wasn’t part of the media’s Camelot scheme. Many more people feared that Goldwater was a crazy who might start a nuclear war. Nobody asked do you trust LBJ or Goldwater—it was do you want Goldwater in charge? The answer was overwhelmingly no.

Remembering the 64 election, if we contact every voter in person and ask them to vote for the most reliable candidate as commander in chief and the person most likely to improve conflicts between races and ethnic groups, Trump will lose badly. We must also say, if you vote for a 3rd party candidate you are saying that those two issues aren’t important this year. The Democratic, Republican and Libertarian parties are corporately controlled, like our exploitative media. The Koch family helped Libertarian organizations get going in the 1960s. We must unite to reduce their influence in future years.
