Black Sands Entertainment was founded by two Army veterans. One of the founders, Manuel Godoy, shared that his passion for comics fueled his drive to build a Black-owned comic publishing company. Godoy further shared that he and his team feel a sense of fulfillment in seeing how Black parents and their children not only connect with the characters in the comic books but also connect to a more remarkable cultural legacy. Black Sands Entertainment explores the lives of the Black people even before the African slave trade. It aims to shed light on the richness of African culture and bridge the gap between today’s readers and their ancestors. As an independent publishing company, Black Sands strives to counter the biased and prejudiced narratives mainstream media presents to the general public by basing everything on truth.

Since its founding in 2016, Black Sands Entertainment has been fostering a strong community of artists and professionals dedicated to fulfilling the company’s mission to create a lasting impact on young readers worldwide. Geiszel Godoy, publisher, author, and wife of Manuel Godoy, said, “The family unit is untapped in today’s society because everyone wants to entertain either the child or the parent. Why can’t we do both and educate them as well?”

Indeed, Black Sands Entertainment has successfully penetrated both Black parents and young readers. By far, the company has sold over 60,000 books, attracted over 1,500 investors, both from the Black and Brown communities, and gained over 800 loyal patrons. Along with its impressive track record, the publishing house has also maintained and strengthened its reach through social media platforms with hundreds of thousands of followers across Facebook and Instagram.
