Stephen Lendman: VVenezuelans get the real thing. Their electoral process is the best in the world. It’s independently judged open, free and fair. Every vote counts. They’re tabulated fully and honestly.
Javier Rodriguez: La Jornada, Mexico’s premier progressive national newspaper, is revealing and highly educational because it points to a big media manipulation of the electoral process in Mexico.
Steve Hochstadt: Find someone who can embody the best in America, who can lead by persuasion, whose vision of the ideal American includes all of us. When you pull that lever, pull it for all of us. Be more than first. Be leaders.
Walter and Rosemary Brasch: We really want to be able to write columns about Americans who take care of each other, about leaders who concentrate upon fixing the social problems. But we know that’s only an ethereal ideal.
Randy Shaw: The greatest lesson of Occupy Wall Street is hard to dispute: many have not given up hopes for real progressive change, and are now more likely to focus outside the electoral process.
Miles Blue: I bit my tongue when the national economy was placed in the hands of the very people who were largely responsible for the recent economic debacle, with absolutely no explanation as to why such appointments were warranted.
Georgianne Nienaber: Martelly talked about the electoral process, the meaning of democracy, the profound challenges facing Haiti, the controversial United Nations presence, and how his flamboyant past sometimes “haunts” him as he seeks the Presidency.
Randy Shaw: Brown’s history shows that he likes to shake things up soon after taking office, and he now has the perfect opportunity. The public desperately wants a solution to California’s longstanding budget crisis, and Brown’s political capital is as high as it will ever be following an election where Democrats won every statewide race and maintained all their Congressional seats.
Tom Degan: But other than those little candles in the darkness, I’m not particularly crazy about Texas. Truth be told, I believe it to be one of the nation’s glaring shames. Molly Ivins (rest her soul) once wrote that all Texans owe a deep debt of gratitude to Mississippi. But not for that state, Texas would be dead last in everything! And to think we fought a war over the place! I would suggest giving it back to Mexico but they have enough problems as it is. Why add to their burden?
HR 3962 Passes After Generations of Americans Ignored. Last night, the House of Representatives passed the Affordable Health Care for America Act, H.R. 3962. It’s being touted as a major step forward but for those who support Single Payer, it is anything but. -Sharon Kyle Stop US Meddling: Support Afghan Women at the Table. No […]
While Maricopa County (Phoenix) Judge Edward O. Burke agreed with the state’s Libertarian Party that county elections director, Karen Osborne, did not follow election law, ensure ballot integrity and an unbroken custody chain, he ruled against them saying, “in a county the size of Maricopa, perfect compliance with the statutory electoral scheme, while desirable, is […]
We’ve been here before: The Republican attack machine at full throttle, spewing lies in best-selling books, on Fox News, on talk radio. The mainstream media reporting on the controversy, thereby giving it more air time and squeezing out the Democrats’ affirmative message. Followed by accusations by Democrats that Republicans are playing unfairly. Responded to by […]
The several political or at least politically tinged events we attended this week showed us that the momentum for change is running fever pitch here in Los Angeles. Clearly, chickens have come home to roost for the woeful Bush Administration and the failed right-wing policies supporting it. Democratic candidates up and down the slate stand […]
