Tom Hall: The earnest M.C. at Saturday’s benefit concert suggested that we all pause for a minute of silence in honor of the recent tragedy in Connecticut. Seated in the audience, I wanted to scream out “NO. No more silence.”
Walter Moss: Rather than using his leadership position as House Speaker to help educate new House Republicans and others, including American voters, about the noble history of political compromise, he succumbed to ignorance, displaying a lack of leadership.
Tim Wise: If double-digit unemployment had been viewed as the emergency it is, when only people of color were experiencing it (as they typically have been, in good times or bad, year after year throughout this century), perhaps lawmakers might have seen fit to address the problem.
Treva Brandon Scharf: Can’t afford a gym membership? Get bored easily by exercise? Don’t want to run into your ex at Equinox? No problem! There’s always the great outdoors – otherwise known as your local park.
Walter Moss: There is little chance that any Republican nominee will put dealing with climate change at the center of his/her agenda, but we progressives should insure that at least the Democratic nominee does.
