*+-Please join us this FRIDAY MORNING, December 7th, at 7:30 a.m., as we discuss a dire economic reality around the senior population in our community, hunger among the elderly.
*+-Sharon Kyle & Dick Price: At last report as of this morning, Charley is still day by day able to get a night’s lodging, while he pitches writing ideas to editors. We encourage to catch up with Charley’s contributions and send whatever you can afford his way, as we have done. You can either send him funds directly to him through PayPal or send them to us and we’ll pass them all to him.
*+-Jim Fuller: Day after day, Beck strides his set at Fox and rants, spit sometimes spraying from his mouth, his puffy face often growing red and his eyes crazily wide, waving his arms and looking and sounding more each week like somebody who is about to crack up before millions of viewers.
*+-Robert Reich: Not only do we need extended unemployment benefits. We need a new WPA, modeled after the WPA of the Great Depression, to put jobless Americans to work. We need a national infrastructure bank to rebuild our crumbling highways and water and sewer systems, thereby putting additional people back to work.
*+-Diane Lefer: Though the Supreme Court ruled on May 17, that juveniles must not be sentenced to life without parole for any crime short of homicide, we expected no surprise and no mercy when we arrived in court Friday morning for the sentencing of young Tedi Snyder. But Judge Ohta did not hand down the preordained 80-year-to-life-sentence. Not because such a sentence is, in effect, equivalent to life without parole, but rather because he, the judge, was recovering from surgery.
*+-If we can’t make sensible reforms to save money in our corrections’ system, then more children will lose their health care, more teachers will be laid off, and more health and safety programs will be cut. Inevitably, we will have more people stealing more pizza and headed off to the only government program left: prison.
