*+-Richard Eskow: The president and his fellow Democrats have agreed to a series of reckless budget-cutting measures instead of fighting for jobs and protecting the social contract, which has deepened and lengthened the lingering recession.
*+-Michele Waslin: ICE expects to deport about 400,000 people this fiscal year, which is nearly 10 percent more than the Bush administration’s 2008 total and 25 percent more than were deported in 2007.
*+-Anthony Asadullah Samad: The President shouldn’t hide behind black leadership who have access, while they sing a song, as Tavis says, “that we all don’t know,” namely that “the President doesn’t need a black agenda.” Don’t deny what we all know is the real help Black America needs. It’s not a subject that you have to run from. And when your community calls, Brother President, just pick up the phone.
*+-Michelle Alexander: The uncomfortable truth, however, is that crime rates do not explain the sudden and dramatic mass incarceration of African Americans during the past 30 years. Witnessing Barack Obama take the oath of office, in the freezing cold with a million other people, is surely one of the seven highlights of my life (along with the witnessing the birth of my four […]
*+-I’ve heard of rooting for the bad guys, but this is ridiculous. John McCain’s elite advisor Charlie Black opined to Fortune magazine that if there were another terrorist strike against our country in time for the general election, it ‘certainly would be a big advantage‘ for McCain’s campaign. Wow. Nice. Which American city would you […]
