Deepak Tripathi: Western societies have suffered a major socioeconomic and moral collapse. The recent street violence in England’s cities is the latest, most disturbing expression of individual selfishness and anger causing the rot.
Robert Reich: The only way back toward sustained growth and prosperity in the United States is to remake the basic bargain linking pay to productivity. This would give the American middle class the purchasing power they need to keep the economy going.
Carl Matthes: Imagine, the finest and best that God could call from His earthly flock to serve in His Holy Church did nothing wrong because when they were molesting young children, they were just “responding to social turmoil.”

Tom Degan: The sad, pathetic truth of the matter is that on the evening of Tuesday, November 4, 1980 I got so falling-down intoxicated, I voted for the man just as a joke. A failed, “B” movie actor in the White House? That ought to be good for a nice, long chuckle , I thought.
Michele Waslin: States considering anti-immigrant legislation will have to reconsider whether forcing out immigrants is worth potentially losing a Congressional seat, federal funding for schools, roads, and infrastructure, and its reputation.
