YIMBY is an acronym for "yes, in my back yard" - a movement that was born in response to another movement, NIMBY ("not in my back yard"). The NIMBY response to the growing need for solutions to the homeless crises across the United States particularly in its large cities has been a barrier to creating solutions. Those who claim to support the YIMBY phenomenon say they support increasing the supply of housing within cities where housing costs have escalated to unaffordable levels. YIMBYs often seek re-zoning that would allow denser housing to be produced or the repurposing of obsolete buildings, such as shopping malls, into housing. The articles on this page address the YIMBY movement.
