Texas Now in Play? Is That a Typo?!?

town-hallIn a firestorm of repudiation against Republican special interest backed ‘Astro-turfing’ (covering over real issues with pretty green carpets) and shouting down Democratic Congress members in boisterous town hall meetings, the just released Gallup National Poll shows only five states in the US can be listed as solidly or leaning Republican while 37 are ‘solidly’ or ‘lean’ Democrat.

That means eight new Red states, including Texas(!) are solidly in play. Texas, the home of George W. Bush and, until now, as Red a Red State as they come, at 42% Democrat and 40% Republican is too close to call. When the Republican Party loses Texas that is their tipping point.

As Texas goes, so goes the party of mindless NO — bullying, braying and blustering. Republicanism is floundering in a sea of wing-nut ideology and their ship is taking on water. The lunatic wing-nut fringe led by talk show hosts, talking head news anchors and Michael “we roll in the ‘hood” Steele as Chairman are in a quandary because the lunatics are running this asylum. Add in the stylish venom of Sarah “sue you! now!” Palin, Michelle Malkin, and Ann Coulter and you have icing on a cake no one would dare look at let alone touch.

From unattended ‘Tea Parties’ to wild-eyed Birthers questioning Obama’s citizenship to a town hall meeting room filled with spittle spewing lunatics already drawing their Medicare coverage (yes, indeedy, partaking of the very “socialist” national medical plan they claim to be so against), the logic has been reduced to: we are Republicans, the Democrats are socialist, and they want to take away your right to healthcare, force you to die, harvest your organs or have mandatory sex-change operations (and this is just the tip of their crazy iceberg).

Indeed the party left crazy nine months ago when Sarah Palin supporters began yelling racist epithets, called Obama a terrorist and shouted “Kill Him” at their rallies. Crazy would be a step up. Now they are inciting anger and hate at a level that will lead to another Tim McVeigh-like domestic terror incident.

gallupWhen FOX News’ Glenn Beck tries to walk back hate comments he incited, you know even his overlords within the Murdoch organization are finally worried about blow-back hitting them. See, words do matter and in the courts of law and public opinion, they would be held liable.

But the real winners are the town hall meeting crazies. Bussed in and paid by the same K Street lobbyists who spent $1.4 million dollars a day the last three months to stop healthcare reform of any kind (which they have successfully done for the last 45 years), they stand in the back of rooms and disrupt dialogue of any kind. They are there to shout down anyone who disagrees and pretty soon the five remaining states (Alaska, Utah, Wyoming, Mississppi, and Idaho — five of the least populous states in the country) could get tired of their game as well.

The eight remaining Red states now in the competitive play column include:

  • Mississippi (+1 Republican),
  • North Dakota and Nebraska (even) and
  • Kansas, Arizona, Texas, South Carolina, and Montana (all +2 Democratic).

So Obama is correct to let the Republicans hang themselves out to dry.

Problem is his own party has got to demonstrate they can lead, govern, get out of the way and move this lobbyist fed beast forward.

It’s not going to matter if the Democrats get an even larger majority, if the Democrats replacing Republicans in these leaning states are Blue Dog Democrats who support the same positions as former Republican congress people.
As the Republican party becomes a fringe, it’ll be interesting to see if the Democrats will split into a liberal party and a centrist moderate right party.

There are many, many things that are great about America, including the RIGHT to express an opinion. People should not be called names especially in the media.

Because those opinions differ from your own does not make them lesser human beings than yourselves. It only makes them different- and maybe, just maybe right about some things.

Not sure if you are defining “astro-turfing” in jest or not, but what it means is fake grass-roots. It means operating in such a way as to make it seem as if something has organic, popular support. If I’m an idiot and din’t get your joke, carry on.

We have the 37th worst quality of healthcare in the developed world. Conservative estimates are that over 120,000 of you dies each year in America from treatable illness that people in other developed countries don’t die from. Rich, middle class, and poor a like. Insured and uninsured. Men, women, children, and babies. This is what being 37th in quality of healthcare means.

I know that many of you are angry and frustrated that REPUBLICANS! In congress are dragging their feet and trying to block TRUE healthcare reform. What republicans want is just a taxpayer bailout of the DISGRACEFUL GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT health insurance industry, and the DISGRACEFUL GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT healthcare industry. A trillion dollar taxpayer funded private health insurance bailout is all you really get without a robust government-run public option available on day one. Co-OP’s ARE NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR A GOVERNMENT-RUN PUBLIC OPTION. They are a fraud being pushed by the GREED DRIVEN PRIVATE FOR PROFIT health insurance industry that is KILLING YOU!

These industries have been slaughtering you and your loved ones like cattle for decades for profit. Including members of congress and their families. These REPUBLICANS are FOOLS!

Republicans and their traitorous allies have been trying to make it look like it’s President Obama’s fault for the delays, and foot dragging. But I think you all know better than that. President Obama inherited one of the worst government catastrophes in American history from these REPUBLICANS! And President Obama has done a brilliant job of turning things around, and working his heart out for all of us.

But Republicans think you are just a bunch of stupid, idiot, cash cows with short memories. Just like they did under the Bush administration when they helped Bush and Cheney rape America and the rest of the World.

But you don’t have to put up with that. And this is what you can do. The Republicans below will be up for reelection on November 2, 2010. Just a little over 13 months from now. And many of you will be able to vote early. So pick some names and tell their voters that their representatives (by name) are obstructing TRUE healthcare reform. And are sellouts to the insurance and medical lobbyist.

Ask them to contact their representatives and tell them that they are going to work to throw them out of office on November 2, 2010, if not before by impeachment, or recall elections. Doing this will give you something more to do to make things better in America. And it will make you feel better too.

There are many resources on the internet that can help you find people to call and contact. For example, many social networking sites can be searched by state, city, or University. Be inventive and creative. I can think of many ways to do this. But be nice. These are your neighbors. And most will want to help.

I know there are a few democrats that have been trying to obstruct TRUE healthcare reform too. But the main problem is the Bush Republicans. Removing them is the best thing tactically to do. On the other hand. If you can easily replace a democrat obstructionist with a supportive democrat, DO IT!

You have been AMAZING!!! my people. Don’t loose heart. You knew it wasn’t going to be easy saving the World. :-)

    God Bless You

  1. […] – I resoundingly disagree that Texas (as quoted here) is “As Red a Red State as they come.” The Texas Democratic Party used to be a force to be reckoned with until they were neutered by Tom Delay’s Gerrymandering of 2003, however it’s interesting to see foreigners start to realize we’re not so homogenous as they might think.
