KPFK is on the brink of bankruptcy. Its Board of Directors Election is ongoing until Jan. 4th, 2016. If enough voters don’t vote, KPFK will not have an elected Board of Directors and MAY go into bankruptcy.

A newly elected Board is needed to generate quality programming and increase listenership and income. Such achievements would give the best chance for KPFK to avert bankruptcy.

The last election at KPFK in 2012 failed to reach the required 10% threshold of voting members. Therefore, no new Board Members were elected in 2012. If the current election fails, KPFK will have no duly elected Board Members at all!

“This election could very well decide the future of KPFK and Pacifica. For democratic media to survive, it is crucial that members of KPFK vote in this election.” From Democratic Media: What a Concept! by Grace Aaron.

Watch Grace Aaron tell why this election may make or break KPFK and urges KPFK members to vote in this critical election here.

Grace Aaron is a Candidate for the Local Board and is a former member of both the Local (2003-2009) and National (2008-2009) Boards and Chair of the National Board and the Executive Director of the Pacifica Foundation in 2009.

There are two opposing slates of 20-25 candidates each. The slates are the Committee to Strengthen KPFK and the Grassroots Community Radio Coalition. Just click on the candidate pictures on either website to read their Statements.

There are also seven Candidates that are not aligned with either slate. Their Statements may be read here.

People are eligible to vote in this election if they donated $25 to KPFK between Aug. 18th, 2014 and Aug. 17th, 2015 on-line or during a fund drive. A second member of your household is also eligible to vote if you donated $50 during that time.

Unfortunately, a lot of eligible voters have not received their ballots.

If you can find your credit card statement showing a $25 donation to “KPFK” between 8-18-2014 and 8-17-2015, please contact King Reilly 323-839-0985 or kingreilly@roadrunner.com.

I am supporting one of the slates, but will try just as hard to help supporters of either slate or any candidate gain their right to vote.

Some voters received an on-line ballot without realizing it. Before contacting me, check for an email from “Pacifica Foundation” (sent Oct. 22nd). It contains a link to your on-line ballot.

Anyone who wants to see this election succeed, please email Joy Williams, the Pacifica National Election Supervisor at NES@Pacifica.org. Ask to have a Local Election Supervisor hired for KPFK. KPFK’s LES became ill and had to quit a month ago. Our election is much more likely to succeed with a new LES in place.
